Apostolic Prefecture Of Upper Kassai
The Roman Catholic Prefecture Apostolic of Upper Kassai ( la, Praefectura Apostolica de Kassai Superiore) was a mission territory in the Belgian Congo. It was erected as a simple mission in 1901, and detached, as a prefecture Apostolic, from the Vicariate of Belgian Congo, on 20 August 1901. Location The residence of the prefect Apostolic was the mission of St. Joseph de Luluabourg, situated a few miles to the south of the station of the Belgian colony of Luluabourg (now Kananga), in the district of Lualaba-Kassai, the chief town of which was Lusambo, residence of the district commissioner. The prefecture, at the time of its creation, comprised almost all the Lualaba-Kassai district. Luba-Kasai, also known as Western Luba, ''Bena-Lulua, Cilubà/Tshilubà'', ''Luba-Lulua'' or ''Luva'', is a Bantu language ( Zone L) of Central Africa and a national language of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, alongside Lingala, Swahili, and Kikongo ya leta. An eastern dialect is spoken by the Luba people of the East Kasai Region and a western dialect by the Lulua people of the West Kasai Region. The total number of speakers was estimated at 6.3 million in 1991. Flobecq (; nl, Vloesberg, ; pcd, Flôbek) is a municipality of Wallonia located in the province of Hainaut, Belgium. Bena Makima
Bena Makima is a community in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is on the right bank of the Kasai River, a few kilometers downstream from the point where the Lulua River enters the Kasai. It is at the highest navigable point on the Kasai in the dry season. Bena Makima was situated within the territory of the Kuba Kingdom. It was a post of the Compagnie du Kasai (CK). The post was a trading center, one of the locations to which the Zappo Zaps brought their ivory and rubber.
