The Apostolic Delegation to the Arab League is an ecclesiastical office of the Catholic Church. It is a diplomatic post of the Holy See, whose representative is called the Apostolic Delegate. He represents the Holy See as an accredited non-member of the Arab League, formally known as the League of Arab States. The Holy See ( lat, Sancta Sedes, ; it, Santa Sede ), also called the See of Rome, Petrine See or Apostolic See, is the jurisdiction of the Pope in his role as the bishop of Rome. The Arab League ( ar, الجامعة العربية, ' ), formally the League of Arab States ( ar, جامعة الدول العربية, '), is a regional organization in the Arab world, which is located in Northern Africa, Western Africa, Eastern Africa, and Western Asia. The Arab League was formed in Cairo on 22 March 1945, initially with six members: Kingdom of Egypt, Egypt, Kingdom of Iraq (1932–1958), Iraq, Emirate of Transjordan, Transjordan (renamed Jordan in 1949), Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, and Syria. Paolo Giglio
Paolo Giglio (20 January 1927 – 6 March 2016) was a Maltese prelate of the Catholic Church, who worked in the diplomatic service of the Holy See from 1958 to 2002, with the rank of archbishop and nuncio from 1986. Biography Paolo Giglio was born in Valletta, Malta, on 20 January 1927 to Angelo Giglio and Ludgarda nee Borg. After studying at the local seminary, he earned a licenciate in theology and a doctorate in canon law at the Pontifical Gregorian University. He was ordained to the priesthood in 12 April 1952. In preparation for a diplomat's career, he completed the course of study at the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy in 1956. Marco Dino Brogi
Marco Dino Brogi, O.F.M. (12 March 1932 – 29 November 2020) was an Italian prelate of the Catholic Church who worked in the Roman Curia and in diplomatic service of the Holy See. Biography Brogi was born in Egypt and was a Latin-rite Catholic. He was ordained a priest on 5 May 1963. He was working as undersecretary in the Congregation for the Oriental Churches, when Pope John Paul II named Brogi titular archbishop of Città Ducale, Apostolic Nuncio to Sudan, and Apostolic Delegate to Somalia on 13 December 1997. John Paul named him Apostolic Nuncio to Egypt and Apostolic Delegate to the Arab League on 5 February 2002. Michael Louis Fitzgerald
Michael Louis Fitzgerald (born 17 August 1937) is a British cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church and an expert on Christian–Muslim relations. He has had the rank of archbishop since 2002. At his retirement in 2012, he was the papal nuncio to Egypt and delegate to the Arab League. He headed the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue from 2002 to 2006. Jean-Paul Aimé Gobel (born 14 May 1943) is a French prelate of the Catholic Church who has worked in the diplomatic service of the Holy See. Biography Gobel was born on 14 May 1943 and ordained a priest for the Diocese of Annecy on 29 June 1969. He completed the program of study at the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy in 1970 and then entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See. Bruno Musarò (born 27 June 1948) is an Italian prelate of the Catholic Church who worked in the diplomatic service of the Holy See from 1977 to 2023, with the rank of archbishop and apostolic nuncio from 1994. Nicolas Thevenin (born 5 June 1958) is a French prelate of the Catholic Church who works in the diplomatic service of the Holy See. He has been Apostolic Nuncio to Egypt since 2019. Biography Nicolas Henry Marie Denis Thevenin was born on 5 June 1958 in Saint-Dizier in the Haute-Marne region of France. He graduated from Commercial Institute of Nancy in 1981. He entered the seminary of Genoa, Italy, as a member of the Community of Saint Martin. He holds a doctorate in canon law. He was ordained a priest on 4 July 1989 and was incardinated in the Archdiocese of Genoa. He joined the diplomatic services of the Holy See on 1 July 1994. Diplomatic Missions Of The Holy See
This is a list of diplomatic missions of the Holy See. Since the fifth century, long before the founding of the Vatican City State in 1929, papal envoys (now known as nuncios) have represented the Holy See to foreign potentates. Additionally, papal representatives known not as nuncios but as apostolic delegates ensure contact between the Holy See and the Catholic Church in countries that do not have diplomatic relations with the Holy See. At present, there is one residential apostolic delegate, for Jerusalem and Palestine, as well as non-residential delegates for four countries (Brunei, Laos, Mauritania, and Somalia) and for the territories and countries without diplomatic relations with the Holy See in three regions (the Arabian Peninsula, the Caribbean, the Pacific Ocean).
