Apiosporaceae
The Apiosporaceae are a family of fungi in the Ascomycota. It was placed in the order Amphisphaeriales in 2020. The family was circumscribed in 1998. Species in the family are saprobic, and derive nutrients by decomposing and digesting plant matter, especially palms and grasses. Anamorph genera include ''Arthrinium'' and ''Cordella''. Apiospora
''Apiospora'' is a genus of fungi which cause plant diseases. It gives its name to the family Apiosporaceae, which contains a number of other genera. This is historically a name for the teleomorph (sexual) life-cycle stage of the fungus; for some species the corresponding anamorph name is ''Arthrinium''. Spegazzinia
:''Spegazzinia is also a synonym of the cactus genus ''Rebutia''. ''Spegazzinia'' is a genus of mitosporic Ascomycota in the Apiosporaceae family. The widely distributed genus contains seven species. This genus is somewhat related to other lobed or ornamented genera such as '' Candelabrum''. No information is available regarding health effects or toxicity. Allergenicity has not been studied. ''Spegazzinia'' is usually identified on spore trap samples where it is seen every few weeks (spores have very distinctive morphology). It may also be found in air by culturable (Andersen) samples if a long enough incubation period is provided so that sporulation occurs. Laboratories have never found this organism growing on indoor environmental surfaces. Natural habitat includes soil and many kinds of trees and plants. The genus was circumscribed by Pier Andrea Saccardo in Rev. Mycol. (Toulouse) vol.2 on page 140 in 1880. The genus name of ''Spegazzinia'' is in honour of Carlo Luigi Spega ...

Sordariomycetes
Sordariomycetes is a class of fungi in the subdivision Pezizomycotina (Ascomycota), consisting of 28 orders, 90 families, 1344 genera. Sordariomycetes is from the Latin sordes (filth) because some species grow in animal feces, though growth habits vary widely across the class. Sordariomycetes generally produce their asci in perithecial fruiting bodies. Sordariomycetes are also known as Pyrenomycetes, from the Greek πυρἠν - 'the stone of a fruit' - because of the usually somewhat tough texture of their tissue. Sordariomycetes possess great variability in morphology, growth form, and habitat. Most have perithecial (flask-shaped) fruiting bodies, but ascomata can be less frequently cleistothecial (like in the genera '' Anixiella'', ''Apodus'', '' Boothiella'', ''Thielavia'', '' Zopfiella''),. Fruiting bodies may be solitary or gregarious, superficial, or immersed within stromata or tissues of the substrates and can be light to bright or black. Members of this group can grow ...

Arthrinium
''Arthrinium'' is a genus of minute disease-causing fungi which belong to the family Apiosporaceae and which are parasitic on flowering plants such as sedges. These fungi have an anamorphic life cycle stage where spores are produced asexually in structures called conidia and a teleomorphic stage where sexual spores are produced in asci. Historically the name ''Arthrinum'' represented the anamorph form and a different genus name was used for the teleomorph form; however after a decision in 2011 one name or the other has to be selected as the current name for all cases. The corresponding teleomorph-derived name varies from species to species of ''Arthrinium'' but most commonly it is '' Apiospora'', for instance the teleomorph synonym of the species ''Arthrinium balearicum'' is ''Apiospora balearica''. There is a tendency to prefer the teleomorph name and the genus name ''Arthrinium'' is not the current official one for all species. The genus was first described by Gustav ...

Fungi
A fungus ( : fungi or funguses) is any member of the group of eukaryotic organisms that includes microorganisms such as yeasts and molds, as well as the more familiar mushrooms. These organisms are classified as a kingdom, separately from the other eukaryotic kingdoms, which by one traditional classification include Plantae, Animalia, Protozoa, and Chromista. A characteristic that places fungi in a different kingdom from plants, bacteria, and some protists is chitin in their cell walls. Fungi, like animals, are heterotrophs; they acquire their food by absorbing dissolved molecules, typically by secreting digestive enzymes into their environment. Fungi do not photosynthesize. Growth is their means of mobility, except for spores (a few of which are flagellated), which may travel through the air or water. Fungi are the principal decomposers in ecological systems. These and other differences place fungi in a single group of related organisms, named the ''Eumycota'' (''t ...
