"Any Way You Want It" is a song by American rock band Journey, released in February 1980 as the lead single from the band's sixth album '' Departure'' (1980). Written by lead singer Steve Perry and guitarist Neal Schon, it peaked at number 23 on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart. The song also appears on all four of the band's live albums '' Captured'', ''Greatest Hits Live'', '' Live in Houston 1981: The Escape Tour'', and ''Revelation'' on DVD. It remains a live staple for the band as well as a heavily rotated song on classic rock radio and a signature song for the band. Composition According to Perry, the song was heavily influenced by Irish hard rock band Thin Lizzy and more particularly by bassist, Phil Lynott. Ross Valory
Ross Lamont Valory (born February 2, 1949) is an American musician who is best known as the original bass player for the rock band Journey from 1973 to 1985 and again from 1995 to 2020. Valory was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Journey in 2017. Career Ross Valory was born on February 2, 1949 in San Francisco, California. He grew up in Lafayette, California and attended Acalanes High School. In high school, he played clarinet, bass clarinet and guitar. His mother introduced him to jazz, particularly Dave Brubeck. He played with Frumious Bandersnatch followed by Steve Miller Band appearing on ''Rock Love''. He was joined by guitarist David Denny, drummer Jack King and bassist Bobby Winkelman, all of whom would become members of the Steve Miller Band. Escape Tour
The Escape Tour was a concert tour by the American rock band Journey in support of their seventh studio album, ''Escape''. Background The tour included six consecutive sold out dates at the Pine Knob Theatre in Detroit, and four straight sold out shows at the Los Angeles Forum, and Chicago's Rosemont Horizon. Journey also made an appearance on July 2, 1982 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California with Blue Öyster Cult, Triumph and Aldo Nova. The -month tour took Journey through Japan and North America. Point Blank, Billy Squier, the Greg Kihn Band and Loverboy were the opening acts during the tour. Mellotron
The Mellotron is an electro-mechanical musical instrument developed in Birmingham, England, in 1963. It is played by pressing its keys, each of which pushes a length of magnetic tape against a capstan, which pulls it across a playback head. As the key is released, the tape is retracted by a spring to its initial position. Different portions of the tape can be played to access different sounds. The Mellotron evolved from the similar Chamberlin, but could be mass-produced more efficiently. The first models were designed for the home and contained a variety of sounds, including automatic accompaniments. Bandleader Eric Robinson and television personality David Nixon helped promote the first instruments, and celebrities such as Princess Margaret were early adopters. Gregg Alan Rolie (born June 17, 1947) is an American singer and keyboardist. Rolie served as lead singer of the bands Santana and Journey – both of which he co-founded. He also helmed rock group The Storm, performed in Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band, and currently performs with his Gregg Rolie Band. Rolie is a two-time inductee of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, having been inducted both as a member of Santana in 1998 and as a member of Journey in 2017.
