Antonio Stuardi
Giovanni Antonio Stuardi (Poirino, Piedmont, 1862 -1938) was an Italian sculptor. Biography Born in Piemont, and active and resident in Turin. He was a pupil of Odoardo Tabacchi at the Accademia Albertina, and later of a sculptor Belli. He completed many of the funereal monuments in the cemeteries of Turin and other Piedmont towns, including bas-reliefs and portraits, among them, the stucco bust of Lupercus, exhibited at Turin, in 1884; and the statue: ''Savoia'', exhibited in Livorno, in 1886, and in Venice, in 1887, where he exhibited: ''Flower of the countryside''. In 1889, he displayed a statue of ''Charity'' at the Promotrice of Turin, which was acquired by the King. He also completed the ''Madonna delle Vette'' atop Monte Rocciamelone, which was cast in bronze. Odoardo Tabacchi
Odoardo Tabacchi (Valganna, 19 December 1836 - Milan, 23 March 1905) was an Italian sculptor. Biography He trained in the Brera Academy starting in 1845, from here he studied with other sculptors in Milan, Rome (where in 1851 he wins a three-year stipend), Florence, and Naples. From 1860 to 1868 he opened a studio in Milan, afterwards he moved to Turin, where he became professor of the Albertina Academy of Fine Arts. He was known for making copies of classic statuary, busts and reliefs. In 1870, in Parma he displayed a statue depicting: ''La Peri''. In 1872, he exhibited in Milan ''L Hypatria'' (Naples, 1877). He also completed a larger than life marble, later bronze, statue of ''Arnaldo da Brescia'', exhibited in Turin in 1880. He made a portrait of Michelangelo Buonarroti for the 1883 Roman Exhibition. The Accademia Albertina di Belle Arti ("Albertina Academy of Fine Arts") is an institution of higher education in Turin, Italy History In the first half of the seventeenth century, there was a "University of Painters, Sculptors and Architects" in Turin which in 1652 became the Compagnia di San Luca. In 1678 it was formally refounded as the Academy of Painters, Sculptors and Architects (''Accademia dei Pittori, Scultori e Architetti'') by Marie Jeanne of Savoy, inspired by the Académie Royale de Paris. Lupercus or Lubercus or Luberkus was a god in Roman mythology. Lupercus was a protector of the farmers, harvesting and packs of wild animals. Every year on 15 February in honor of him, the Romans held the Lupercalia. He was an ancient Italian god, worshipped by shepherds as the promoter of fertility in sheep and protector of flocks. Don Bosco
John Melchior Bosco ( it, Giovanni Melchiorre Bosco; pms, Gioann Melchior Bòsch; 16 August 181531 January 1888), popularly known as Don Bosco , was an Italian Catholic priest, educator, writer and saint of the 19th century. While working in Turin, where the population suffered many of the ill-effects of industrialization and urbanization, he dedicated his life to the betterment and education of street children, juvenile delinquents, and other disadvantaged youth. He developed teaching methods based on love rather than punishment, a method that became known as the Salesian Preventive System. A follower of the spirituality and philosophy of Francis de Sales, Bosco was an ardent devotee of Mary, mother of Jesus, under the title Mary Help of Christians.
