Antonina is a municipality in the state of Paraná in southern Brazil. As of 2020, the estimated population was 18,949. Geography Antonina has an area of . It is located at . It is 80 km away from Curitiba. The municipality contains 29% of the Roberto Ribas Lange State Park, created in 1994. It contains part of the Pico Paraná State Park, created in 2002. It also holds 30% of the Bom Jesus Biological Reserve, a strictly protected conservation unit established in 2012. History The small town Antonina was former known as “Capela” – as a chapel has been built there in the 18th century. Due to this fact the inhabitants are called “capelistas” until today. Her influence over her husband was great; Procopius features her as dominating Belisarius.Martindale, Jones & Morris (1992), p. 91–93 The historian Paolo Cesaretti mentions her as a controversial figure and the "right arm" of the empress Theodora in the exercise of influence and power. Family Procopius records that both the father and the grandfather of Antonina were charioteers. They had performed for audiences in Constantinople and Thessalonica. Procopius fails to mention their names. The unnamed mother of Antonina was an actress. Procopius mentions her in contemptuous terms: "Her mother was one of the prostitutes attached to the theatre." Evgenia Tur (russian: link=no, Евге́ния Тур; 24 August 1815 – 27 March 1892) was a Russian writer, critic, journalist and publisher. Her birth name was Elizaveta Vasilyevna Sukhovo-Kobylina. Her full married name was Countess Elizaveta Vasilyevna Salias De Tournemire. The novelist Evgeny Salias De Tournemire was her son. The playwright Aleksandr Sukhovo-Kobylin was her brother. Her sister, Sofia, was a painter of some note. Early years Elizaveta was born in Moscow into a noble family.
