Antoine Payen the Elder (1748–1798) was a Belgian architect and army engineers officer who designed several châteaux and villas in what were then the Austrian Netherlands. His best known work is the Belvédère Castle. He initially collaborated with Charles de Wailly. The Austrian Netherlands nl, Oostenrijkse Nederlanden; french: Pays-Bas Autrichiens; german: Österreichische Niederlande; la, Belgium Austriacum. was the territory of the Burgundian Circle of the Holy Roman Empire between 1714 and 1797. Belvédère Castle
Belvédère Castle (French language, French: ''Château du Belvédère''; Dutch language, Dutch: ''Kasteel Belvédère'') is a Belgian royal residence in Laeken, Belgium, which currently houses Albert II of Belgium and his wife, Queen Paola of Belgium. History Belvédère Castle was originally built in the 1780s, then the castle was bought by King Leopold II in 1867. The castle was meant for his sister Carlotta of Mexico, but she chose to live in Tervuren, which left Belvédère empty for a while. In 1890, a fire broke out in the Royal Castle of Laeken, and King Leopold and his wife Marie Henriette of Austria moved to Belvédère while repairs took place. Once the repairs were finished, Leopold and Marie Henriette moved back to the Royal Palace, while Belvédère became the residence of their youngest daughter, Princess Clémentine of Belgium, Princess Clementine. Charles De Wailly
Charles de Wailly () (9 November 1730 – 2 November 1798) was a French architect and urbanist, and furniture designer, one of the principals in the Neoclassical revival of the Antique. His major work was the Théâtre de l'Odéon for the Comédie-Française (1779–82). In his designs, de Wailly showed a predilection for the perfect figure, the circle. Auguste Antoine Joseph Payen (12 November 1792 - 18 January 1853), also known as Antoine Payen the Younger, was a Belgian painter and naturalist. He was born in Brussels and died in Tournai. His father, Antoine Payen the Elder, was an architect. Payen was commissioned by Dutch King William I to create a series of paintings of the landscape of the Dutch East Indies. One of these works, ''The Great Postal Route near Rejapolah'', painted in 1828, hangs in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
