Anthony Trafford, Baron Trafford
Joseph Anthony Porteous Trafford, Baron Trafford of Falmer, FRCP (20 July 1932 – 16 September 1989) was a British Conservative Party politician and physician. He was usually known as Anthony Trafford, sometimes shortened to "Tony". Trafford was son of physician Harold Trafford of Warlingham, Surrey. In 1960 he married Helen Elizabeth, later styled ''The Lady Trafford of Falmer'', daughter of Albert Ralph Chalk of Cambridge. He made his home in Hove, Sussex. Brighton Hotel Bombing
A Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA) assassination attempt against members of the British government took place on 12 October 1984 at the Grand Hotel in Brighton, East Sussex, England, United Kingdom. A long-delay time bomb was planted in the hotel by Patrick Magee before Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and her cabinet arrived there for the Conservative Party conference. 1970 United Kingdom General Election
The 1970 United Kingdom general election was held on Thursday 18 June 1970. It resulted in a surprise victory for the Conservative Party under leader Edward Heath, which defeated the governing Labour Party under Harold Wilson. The Liberal Party, under its new leader Jeremy Thorpe, lost half its seats. The Conservatives, including the Ulster Unionist Party (UUP), secured a majority of 30 seats. This general election was the first in which people could vote from the age of 18, after passage of the Representation of the People Act the previous year, and the first UK election where party, and not just candidate names were allowed to be put on the ballots. The Royal Sussex County Hospital is an acute teaching hospital in Brighton, England.
