Anthony Moise
Anthony Moise was a Dominican politician and cabinet minister from Dominica Freedom Party. Moise was 74 years old in August 1980, so he was born about 1905–1907. He was a farmer and builder from the southern village of Soufrière. Moise was first elected to the Legislative Council of Dominica in 1961 as an independent and 1966 as a Dominica United People's Party candidate. He was one of the founders of Dominica Freedom Party in 1968. He was elected to the House of Assembly in 1970 under the banner of Dominica Freedom Party. In 1975 and 1980 he was re-elected from Soufrière constituency. Moise was appointed as the Leader of the Opposition from 1970 until April 1975 when he was replaced by Eugenia Charles. Charles Maynard (Dominican Politician)
Charles Maynard was a Dominican politician and cabinet minister from Dominica Freedom Party. Maynard was born on 18 January 1934 in Roseau. He was educated in the University of the West Indies, the University College of Wales at Aberystwyth and the University of Oxford, England. Back in Dominica, he worked as civil servant. During the summer 1979 political turmoil, Maynard was appointed minister of education in the cabinet of Oliver Seraphin. He resigned from the cabinet in January 1980. When Dominica Freedom Party (DFP) lead by Eugenia Charles won the elections of 1980, Maynard was asked to join the cabinet as minister of education. In the elections of 1985 Maynard succeeded Anthony Moise as the representative of Soufrière in the House of Assembly as a member of DFP. He was a member of the legislature for fifteen years. The Dominica Freedom Party (DFP) is a conservative political party in Dominica. It shares much of the same socially and economically conservative principles as the Conservative Party in the UK. The party has been led by Bernard Hurtault since 2021. History The DFP was led by Dame Eugenia Charles from 1972 until 1995. She became Prime Minister in 1980 and served until her 1995 retirement. Following her resignation as party leader and the defeat of the DFP in the 1995 elections by the United Workers' Party, she was succeeded by Brian Alleyne. Eugenia Charles
Dame Mary Eugenia Charles, (15 May 1919 – 6 September 2005) was a Dominican politician who was Prime Minister of Dominica from 21 July 1980 until 14 June 1995. The first female lawyer in Dominica, she was Dominica's first, and to date only, female prime minister. She was the second female prime minister in the Caribbean after Lucina da Costa of the Netherlands Antilles. She was the first female in the Americas to be elected in her own right as head of government. She served for the second longest period of any Dominican prime minister, and was the world's fourth longest-serving female Prime Minister, behind Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh, Sirimavo Bandaranaike of Sri Lanka and Indira Gandhi of India.
