Anthony Lowther, Viscount Lowther
Anthony Edward Lowther, Viscount Lowther (24 September 1896 – 6 October 1949) was an English courtier and soldier. Early life Anthony Edward Lowther was the eldest son of Lancelot Lowther, 6th Earl of Lonsdale by his first wife, the former Gwendoline Sophia Alice Sheffield (1869–1921). After the death of his mother in 1921, his father remarried to Sybil Beatrix Feetham, the only child of Maj Gen Edward Feetham of Farmwood. His maternal grandparents were the former Priscilla Dumaresq (daughter of Lt. Col. Henry Dumaresq) and Sir Robert Sheffield, 5th Baronet. His paternal grandparents were Henry Lowther, 3rd Earl of Lonsdale and Emily, Countess Lowther (née Emily Susan Caulfeild), the daughter of St George Caulfeild of Donamon Castle of Roscommon, Ireland. James Hugh William Lowther, 7th Earl of Lonsdale (3 November 1922 – 23 May 2006), was a British peer. Background and education Lowther was the elder son of Anthony Lowther, Viscount Lowther, and Muriel Frances Farrar, daughter of Sir George Herbert Farrar of Chicheley Hall, 1st Baronet, a South African Randlord. Lowther was educated at Eton. In October 1940, he went up to Cambridge University to read mechanical engineering. After three months, he withdrew. In 1941, he joined the Army. Public life The Army sent Lowther to Oxford University, where he completed a degree in Electricity and Magnetism in just six months, and he was commissioned into the Royal Armoured Corps in September 1942. Chicheley Hall
Chicheley Hall, Chicheley, Buckinghamshire, England, is a country house built in the first quarter of the 18th century. The client was Sir John Chester, the main architect was Francis Smith of Warwick and the architectural style is Baroque. Later owners included David Beatty, 2nd Earl Beatty, and the Royal Society. Hugh Cecil Lowther, 5th Earl of Lonsdale, (25 January 1857–13 April 1944) was an English peer and sportsman. He was president of Bertram Mills Olympia Circus and a vice-president of the RSPCA.
