Anthony John Gargrave
Anthony John Gargrave (June 16, 1926 – January 7, 1998) was an English-born logger, lawyer and political figure in British Columbia. He represented Mackenzie in the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia from 1952 to 1966 as a Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) and then New Democratic Party (NDP) member. He was born in London in 1926 and, in 1940, was sent to Canada to live with his brother Herbert during the bombardment of London. Gargrave continued his education in Vancouver, British Columbia. In 1945, he went overseas with the Canadian Army. After the war, he worked in lumber camps in British Columbia. He was defeated when he ran for reelection to the assembly in 1966. British Columbia New Democratic Party
The New Democratic Party of British Columbia (BC NDP) is a social-democratic provincial political party in British Columbia, Canada. As of 2017, it governs the province. It is the British Columbia provincial arm of the federal New Democratic Party (NDP). The party previously governed from 1972 to 1975 and from 1991 to 2001. Following a hung parliament as a result of the 2017 election and the BC Liberal government's failure to win a confidence vote in the Legislature, the BC NDP secured a confidence and supply agreement with the BC Green Party to form a minority government. Herbert Gargrave
Herbert Gargrave (1905 – 20 November 1973) was an English-born painter and decorator and political figure in British Columbia. He represented Mackenzie in the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia from 1941 to 1949 as a Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) member. He was born in London and came to Canada in 1928, living in Regina, Saskatchewan for a year before moving to Vancouver. Gargrave served as secretary of the National Painters' Union. He joined the Socialist Party of Canada and helped form the Young Socialists' League. Gargrave served as provincial secretary for the CCF and was a member of the CCF National Council from 1938 to 1944. He ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the provincial assembly in 1937. Gargrave was defeated when he ran for reelection in 1949. He later moved to Toronto where he worked with the Canadian Labour Congress and then with the Canadian executive of the United Steelworkers of America. Canadian Army
The Canadian Army (french: Armée canadienne) is the command responsible for the operational readiness of the conventional ground forces of the Canadian Armed Forces. Gibson's Landing, British Columbia
Gibsons is a coastal community of 4,605 in southwestern British Columbia, Canada on the Strait of Georgia. Although it is on the mainland, the Sunshine Coast is not accessible by road. Vehicle access is by BC Ferries from Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver, a 40-minute crossing; or by a ferry from Powell River to Earls Cove, north of Sechelt.
