Anoplognathus Aureus
''Anoplognathus aureus'', commonly known as the gold Christmas beetle, is a beetle of the family Scarabaeidae native to northern Australia, from northeastern Queensland to northern Western Australia. It is prized by collectors. English entomologist Charles Owen Waterhouse described the gold Christmas beetle in 1889. The species name is the Latin adjective ''aureus'' "golden". The Reverend Thomas Blackburn described ''Calloodes frenchi'' in 1890, from a specimen given to him by Australian entomologist Charles French. Blackburn doubted the genus ''Calloodes'' was distinct from ''Anoplognathus''. Blackburn described ''Anoplognathus concinnus'' in 1900, which turned out to be a red-brown colour variant of this species. Charles Owen Waterhouse
Charles Owen Waterhouse (19 June 1843 – 4 February 1917) was an English entomologist who specialised in Coleoptera. He was the eldest son of George Robert Waterhouse. Waterhouse was an Assistant Keeper at the Natural History Museum, London, British Museum (Natural History), London. He wrote the Buprestidae part of Frederick DuCane Godman and Osbert Salvin's ''Biologia Centrali-Americana'' (1889) and very many papers on the worldwide beetle collections of the museum, describing hundreds of new species. He was President of the Royal Entomological Society from 1907 until 1908, and was appointed ISO in the 1910 Birthday Honours. Waterhouse died in February 1917 at the age of 73. Thomas Blackburn (entomologist)
Thomas Blackburn (16 March 1844 – 28 May 1912) was an English-born Australian priest and entomologist who specialized in the study of beetles. Born near Liverpool, England, Blackburn became interested in entomology in his youth. At the age of 18, with his brother, he began publishing and editing the periodical ''The Weekly Entomologist''; this ceased publication two years later, after which he became one of the editors of the newly founded ''Entomologist's Monthly Magazine''. In 1866, he entered the University of London, from which he received a B.A. degree in 1868. Ordained a priest of the Church of England in 1870, he served for six years as a parish priest at Greenhithe, Kent. Charles French (10 September 1842 – 21 May 1933) was an Australian horticulturist, naturalist, entomologist and plant/seed collector who made significant contributions to economic entomology. Early life French was born in Lewisham, Kent, England, the son of John French (died 1848) and Ellen, née Tucker. Ellen remarried and the young French moved to Melbourne with his family in 1852. They settled in Cheltenham, a suburb of Melbourne. Career French became interested in natural history and was apprenticed to a nurseryman at Hawthorn, James Scott.
