Annika Holopainen
Annika Alexandra Holopainen (born 4 August 1993) is a Finnish professional basketball player and a member of the Finnish national team. She played college basketball for the University of Portland and later Old Dominion University. Following her college career, she has played professionally in Europe. Club career Holopainen started her career with Tapiolan Honka in the second-tier Naisten I Divisioona. She later played for Espoo Basket Team with whom she won the Finnish Basketball Cup in 2011. The same year she was named the Naisten Korisliiga Sixth Man of the Year and the Newcomer of the Year. During the 2017–2018 season she played for TSV 1880 Wasserburg in the Damen-Basketball-Bundesliga and the EuroCup. She helped the team win the German Basketball Cup in 2018. The following season, she became the first Finnish woman to play in the Polish Basket Liga Kobiet when she joined AZS Politechnika Gdańsk. Forward (basketball)
In the sport of basketball, there are five players play per team, each assigned to positions. Historically, these players have been assigned, to positions defined by the role they play on the court, from a strategic point of view. The three main positions are guard, forward, and center, with the standard team featuring two guards, two forwards, and a center. Over time, as more specialized roles developed, each of the guards and forwards came to be differentiated, and today each of the five positions are known by unique names, each of which has also been assigned a number: point guard (PG) or 1, the shooting guard (SG) or 2, the small forward (SF) or 3, the power forward (PF) or 4, and the center (C) or 5. EuroBasket, also commonly referred to as the European Basketball Championship, is the main international basketball competition that is contested quadrennially, by the senior men's national teams that are governed by FIBA Europe, which is the European zone within the International Basketball Federation. The competition was first held in 1935. The former Soviet Union holds the record for most gold medals with a total of 14. The tournament is generally held in August or September, in the offseason of major club competitions. The current defending champion is Spain, who won the 2022 title. The Keflavík women's basketball team, commonly known as Keflavík, is the women's basketball department of Keflavík ÍF (Keflavík, íþrótta- og ungmennafélag), based in the town of Reykjanesbær in Iceland. It is Iceland's most successful women's basketball team with 16 national championship. They currently play in Úrvalsdeild kvenna where they won the national championship in 2017. Basket Liga Kobiet (BLK), currently known for sponsorship reasons as Energa Basket Liga Kobiet (EBLK; 2001–2013 Polska Liga Koszykówki Kobiet, PLKK) is a professional women's club basketball league in Poland. It constitutes the first and highest-tier level of the Polish league pyramid. The winning team of the final round are crowned the Polish Champions of that season. The BLK, which is played under FIBA rules, currently consists of 11 teams (professional basketball's clubs). A BLK season is split into a league stage and a playoffs stage. The Damen-Basketball-Bundesligen GmbH (DBBL) is a company founded in June 2001, which manages the first and the two second federal leagues of women's basketball in Germany. The shareholders of the GmbH are AG 1. DBBL, AG 2. DBBL and DBB. DBBL is based in Frankfurt am Main. Philipp Reuner has been the managing director since August 2020.
