Annelies Thies
Antonia Allagonna Elizabeth "Annelies" Thies (born 24 November 1969, in Groningen) is a sailor from the Netherlands. Thies represented her country at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. With crew members Annemieke Bes en Petronella de Jong Thies took 4th place in the Yngling The Ynglings were a dynasty of kings, first in Sweden and later in Norway, primarily attested through the poem ''Ynglingatal''. Yngling (keelboat)
The Yngling is a sailboat that was designed by Norwegian Jan Herman Linge as a one design racer and first built in 1967.Sherwood, Richard M.: ''A Field Guide to Sailboats of North America, Second Edition'', pages 108-109. Houghton Mifflin Company, 1994. The Yngling design is very similar to the larger 1966 Linge-designed Soling. Sailing (sport), Sailing/Yachting is an Olympic sport that has been part of the Olympic programme starting from the Games of the 1st Olympiad (Sailing at the 1896 Summer Olympics, 1896 Olympics in Athens, Greece). With the exception of 1904 Summer Olympics, 1904 and possibly the canceled 1916 Summer Olympics, sailing has always been included on the Olympic schedule. The Sailing program in 2004 consisted of eleven disciplines divided over nine sailing classes. For each discipline multiple races were scheduled between 14 and 28 August 2004 along the coast near Athens. Annemieke Bes
Annemieke Marileen Bes (born 16 March 1978, in Groningen) is a sailor from the Netherlands, who represented her country for the first time at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. The Dutch Yngling helmed by Annelies Thies and crewed by Bes and Petronella de Jong took the 4th place. Bes returned to the Olympics, again in the Dutch Yngling, during the 2008 Olympics this time with fellow crewmember Merel Witteveen and helmsman Mandy Mulder. The Dutch Yngling team took the Silver Medal in Qingdao. Bes than switched to the Elliott 6m Match racing. During the 2012 Olympics the team with helmsman Renee Groeneveld and crewmembers Bes and Marcelien Bos-de Koning took 8th place in Weymouth.
