Anne Sander (born 1 October 1973) is a French economist and politician of the Republicans who has been serving as a Member of the European Parliament since 2014 and as one of the five Quaestors of the European Parliament since 2019. Early life Sander was born on 1 October 1973 in Haguenau, a small town in northeastern France. Political career Since the 2014 European elections, Sander has been a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for The Republicans, within the Group of the European People's Party. She has served on the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs (2014–2017), the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs (2017–2019) and on the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development (since 2019). Quaestor Of The European Parliament
In the European Parliament, the quaestors are elected to oversee administrative and financial matters directly affecting Member of the European Parliament, members (MEPs) as well as other duties assigned to them by the Parliament's Rules of Procedure or the Bureau of the European Parliament. Five quaestors are elected among the MEPs for two and a half year-terms, i.e. half a parliamentary term. Election Quaestors are elected after the President of the European Parliament, President and Vice-President of the European Parliament, Vice-Presidents of the European Parliament. Rule 18 of the Rules of Procedure dictates that quaestors are elected by the same procedure as the Vice-Presidents, meaning that one or more single ballots are held until all five seats have been filled via either absolute majority (first two ballots) or relative majority (3rd ballot). A leadership election for the presidency of The Republicans (LR) was held on 10 December 2017, the first since the refoundation of the party in 2015, before which it was known as the Union for a Popular Movement (UMP), and seventh overall including the UMP congresses. The Republicans held a presidential primary election, officially called the open primary of the right and centre (french: primaire ouverte de la droite et du centre), to select a candidate for the 2017 presidential election. It took place on 20 November 2016, with a runoff on 27 November since no candidate obtained at least 50% of the vote in the first round. It was the first time an open primary had been held for The Republicans or its predecessor parties. The 2019 European Parliament election was held between 23 and 26 May 2019, the ninth parliamentary election since the first direct elections in 1979. A total of 751 Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) represent more than 512 million people from 28 member states.
