Annapolis West
Annapolis West was a provincial electoral district in Nova Scotia, Canada, that elected one member of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. It existed from 1956 to 1993. Prior to 1956, it was a part of the district of Annapolis County. It was abolished when it was merged into Digby-Annapolis. Annapolis County (electoral District)
Annapolis is a provincial electoral district in Nova Scotia, Canada, that elects one member of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. The district was created in 1867 and was abolished in 1953 when it was re-distributed into Annapolis East and Annapolis West. The district was re-formed in 1993 and its boundaries were changed following the 2012 electoral reform commission to include the portion of Digby-Annapolis within Annapolis County north of Maitland Bridge. The district includes the entirety of Annapolis County including the municipalities of Annapolis Royal and Middleton. Since 2021, the district has been represented by Carman Kerr. Digby—Annapolis is a provincial electoral district in Nova Scotia, Canada which existed between 1993 and 2013 and since 2021. It elects one member of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. The electoral district includes the Municipality of the District of Digby, which is the northeastern half of Digby County as well as the western part of Annapolis County. The electoral district was created in 1993 by merging sections from Annapolis East, Annapolis West and Digby. It was abolished following the 2012 electoral boundary review and was largely replaced by the new electoral districts of Clare-Digby and Annapolis. Greg Kerr
John Gregory Kerr (born October 8, 1947) is a Canadian politician. He was the Member of Parliament for West Nova from 2008 to 2015 and a member of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1978 to 1993. Early life and education Born in Annapolis Royal, he graduated from Annapolis Royal Regional Academy. He then graduated from Mount Allison University with a B.A. and B.Ed. After graduation, he taught at Bridgetown Regional High School. Political career He represented Annapolis West in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1978 to 1993 as a Progressive Conservative member. Kerr served in the Executive Council of Nova Scotia as Minister of Culture, Recreation and Fitness from 1980 to 1981, as Minister of the Environment from 1981 to 1983, as Minister of Finance from 1983 to 1993, as Minister of Housing from 1988 to 1989 and as Minister of Tourism and Culture from 1992 to 1993. The Nova Scotia Liberal Party is a centrist provincial political party in Nova Scotia, Canada and the provincial section of the Liberal Party of Canada. The party currently forms the Official Opposition in Nova Scotia, under the leadership of Zach Churchill. The party was in power most recently from the 2013 election until the 2021 election. Daurene Lewis
Daurene Elaine Lewis, (September 9, 1943 – January 26, 2013), was a Canadian politician and educator. She was the first Black female mayor in Canada. Early life and education Born in Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia in 1943, Lewis was a descendant of freed Loyalist African Americans who settled in Annapolis Royal in 1783. She was a descendant of Rose Fortune, a Virginian who became the first female police officer in North America. Trained as a registered nurse, Lewis held a diploma in teaching in schools of nursing from Dalhousie University, a Master of Business Administration from Saint Mary's University, and in 1993 was awarded an honorary doctorate in humane letters from Mount Saint Vincent University. Political career Lewis first formal political involvement was in 1979, running for town council in Annapolis Royal.
