Anna Nagar Tower Park
Anna Nagar Tower Park, officially known as Dr Visvesvaraya Tower Park, is an urban park in the suburb of Anna Nagar, Chennai. It is the tallest park tower in Chennai. The tower has been closed for the public. However, the park is still open. History Anna Nagar Tower Park was built in 1968 as part of the World Trade Fair. The park was built by B. S. Abdur Rahman and was inaugurated by former Vice-President V. V. Giri in the presence of the then Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu C. N. Annadurai on 21 January 1968. The park was renovated at a cost of 62 million and reopened in 2010. Location Anna Nagar Tower Park is located near the chief roundabout of the neighbourhood (known as the Anna Nagar Roundana) and the Anna Nagar Ayyappan Temple. The park has two entrances. Anna Nagar (formerly known as Naduvakkarai), is a neighbourhood in the metropolitan city of Chennai, India. Named after former chief minister of Tamil Nadu C. N. Annadurai, it is located in the north-western part of Chennai and forms a part of the Aminjikarai taluk and the Anna Nagar Zone. Anna Nagar Ayyappan Koil is a Hindu Ayyappan Temple dedicated to the deity Ayyappan in Chennai, India. It is located at the junction of 6th Main Road and 2nd Avenue in Anna Nagar. History When Anna Nagar was developed as a model town in the late 1960s, the annual ''vilakku'' pooja during the ''mandala makaravilakku'' season was celebrated by Ayyappa devotees in the newly formed Shanti Colony. The residents' response to this annual celebration resulted in the formation of the Sri Ayyappa Seva Samajam (SASS) in 1976, with 14 members in its committee. In 1979, the Samajam started a charitable medical centre for the poor and needy. Anna Arches
Anna Nagar twin arches are ornamental twin arches located in Anna Nagar, Chennai, India. It was built on 1 January 1986 to commemorate the platinum jubilee of the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu C. N. Annadurai. Located at the junction of Poonamallee High Road and Anna Nagar Third Avenue, the arches are one of the most prominent landmarks in the city and serve as the entrance of the suburb of Anna Nagar from the southern side. History The twin arches were built in 1985 by the Corporation of Madras to commemorate the platinum jubilee of the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu C. N. Annadurai. Built at a cost of 1.2 million, the arches were completed in 105 days and were inaugurated on 1 January 1986 by former Chief Minister M. G. Ramachandran. As of 2019, there are 632 parks in Chennai City, including 142 parks in the north zone, 224 in the central zone, and 266 in the south zone.
