Anna Hemmings
Anna Lucina Hemmings (born 19 December 1976) is a British marathon kayakist who competed in the 1990s and 2000s (decade), winning six world championship gold medals. Hemmings, who was born in Hammersmith, also competed in sprint kayaking. She was eliminated in the semifinals of the K-1 500 m event at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. Eight years later in Beijing, Hemmings was eliminated in the heats of the K-2 500 m event. Kayak Racing
Canoe sprint is a water sport in which athletes race canoes or kayaks on calm water. Overview Race categories vary by the number of athletes in the boat, the length of the course, and whether the boat is a canoe or kayak. Canoe sprints are sometimes referred to as flat water racing. The distances recognized by the ICF for international canoe sprint races are 200m, 500m, and 1000m. These races take place on straight courses with each boat paddling in its own designated lane. Longer marathon races do exist, notably the 5000m (also an ICF-recognized distance) – these usually have athletes starting in a large pack at a start line before paddling around a set course with marked turning points (there are no assigned lanes). Langley Academy, Slough
The Langley Academy is an academy in Langley, east of Slough in Berkshire, south east England. It opened in September 2008, replacing the former Langleywood Secondary School. The building was designed by Foster and Partners, led by the architect Norman Foster and by Buro Happold. The school is supported by the Arbib Foundation. It has a specialism of science and a museum education theme, including exhibits in the school building. It also promotes sport, notably cricket and rowing.
