Anna-Eva Bergman
Anna-Eva Bergman (29 May 1909 – 24 July 1987) was a Norwegian abstract expressionist artist. She was a modernist artist and part of the School of Paris. Her abstract paintings were often inspired by nature and based on abstracted motifs. Biography Bergman was born in Stockholm, Sweden as the child of a Swedish father and a Norwegian mother. Her parents divorced shortly after her birth, and she moved with her mother to Norway. She attended the Norwegian National Academy of Fine Arts (1926–1928). In 1928, she accompanied her mother to Vienna and became a student at the Kunstgewerbeschule. In Paris she met the German abstract expressionist artist Hans Hartung (1904–1989). The two were married in 1929, and lived in Paris and in Germany, and later in Menorca. Problems along with Bergman's failing health led to the couple's divorce in 1939. Musée National Des Beaux-arts Du Québec
The Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec ( en, National Museum of Fine Arts of Quebec), abbreviated as MNBAQ, is an art museum in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. The museum is situated in Battlefield Park and is a complex consisting of four buildings. Three of the buildings were purpose-built for the museum. One building was initially built as a provincial prison before being repurposed for museum use. The institution was opened as the Musée de la province de Québec in 1933. The museum was a provincial archives, arts, and natural science museum until 1962, when the natural science collection was removed. In the following year, the museum was renamed the Musée du Quebec. The provincial archives were relocated from the museum in 1979, leaving the institution with only an arts collection. In 2002, the museum was renamed the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec. ''Modern Painters'' (1843–1860) is a five-volume work by the Victorian art critic, John Ruskin, begun when he was 24 years old based on material collected in Switzerland in 1842. Ruskin argues that recent painters emerging from the tradition of the picturesque are superior in the art of landscape to the old masters. The book was primarily written as a defense of the later work of J. M. W. Turner. Ruskin used the book to argue that art should devote itself to the accurate documentation of nature. In Ruskin's view, Turner had developed from early detailed documentation of nature to a later more profound insight into natural forces and atmospheric effects. ''Finnmark, Winter'' (Norwegian: ''Finnmark, winter'') is a painting by Norwegian artist Anna-Eva Bergman in 1966. The picture was made with metal foil on canvas and has dimensions of 150 x 300 cm. The picture is part of the collection of the Fondation Hartung-Bergman in Antibes, France. Background Although Anna-Eva Bergman was Norwegian, she did most of her work in France, where she participated in numerous exhibitions until her death in 1987. Her principles in art grew from the line drawings she drew for books by herself and others. In her last forty years of production she opted for abstract paintings inspired by nature. Looking for new techniques, she used aluminum, silver and gold foil in her work. Beginning in the 1950s, after a visit to the north of Norway, she began to paint its landscapes. Abstract expressionism is a post–World War II art movement in American painting, developed in New York City in the 1940s. It was the first specifically American movement to achieve international influence and put New York at the center of the Western art world, a role formerly filled by Art in Paris, Paris.
