Ann Bedsole
Ann Smith Bedsole (born Margaret Anna Smith; January 7, 1930) is an American politician, businesswoman, community activist, and philanthropist. She was the first Republican woman to serve in the Alabama House of Representatives and, alongside Frances Strong, the first woman to serve in the Alabama Senate. In 2002, she was inducted into the Alabama Academy of Honor. Early life Margaret Anna Smith was born on January 7, 1930, in Selma, Alabama, to Malcolm White Smith and Sybil Huey Smith. She has one sister. When she was five, her father moved the family to Jackson, Alabama where he had bought a sawmill; she went on to work there as a teen. She graduated from Waynesboro High School in Waynesboro, Virginia, and later attended the University of Alabama and the University of Denver. Sonny Callahan
Herbert Leon "Sonny" Callahan (September 11, 1932 – June 24, 2021) was an American businessman and politician from Alabama. After being elected as a Democrat from Mobile to the state house and senate, he shifted to the Republican Party after losing a race for Lieutenant Governor of Alabama in 1982. He was repeatedly elected as a Republican to the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1985 to 2003. Afterward he established his own lobbying firm and continued to be active in the Republican Party. Forrest Hood "Fob" James Jr. (born September 15, 1934) is an American civil engineer, entrepreneur, football player, and politician. He served as the 48th governor of Alabama, first as a Democrat, 1979–1983, and secondly as a Republican, 1995–1999. Education, football, and early career James was born in Lanett, Alabama, the son of Rebecca (née Ellington) and Forrest Hood James. Named after his father, he was nicknamed "Fob" as a boy.
