Anke-Eve Goldmann
Anke-Eve Goldmann was a journalist for '' Cycle World'', ''Das Motorrad'' in Germany, ''Moto Revue'' in France and other international motorcycle magazines. Goldmann was a friend of author André Pieyre de Mandiargues and the inspiration for the main character, 'Rebecca', in his most popular book ''The Motorcycle'' (1963). The book was adapted for the 1968 film ''The Girl on a Motorcycle'' starring Marianne Faithfull. From the 1950s, she competed in endurance and circuit racing, at the Nürburgring and Hockenheimring but being a woman, was barred from higher level competitions. Goldmann taught German to airmen's children at a U.S. Air Force base in Germany. She was the first woman to ride a motorcycle with a one-piece leather racing suit, made for her by German manufacturer Harro. ''Cycle World'' is a motorcycling magazine in the United States. It was founded in 1962 by Joe Parkhurst, who was inducted to the Motorcycle Hall of Fame as "the person responsible for bringing a new era of objective journalism" to the US. ''Cycle World'' was the largest motorcycling magazine in the world. The magazine is headquartered in Irvine, California. Regular contributors include Peter Egan and Nick Ienatsch. With an average circulation of approximately 135,000 copies it is Europe's largest magazine for this target audience. The magazine is part of Gruner + Jahr. André Pieyre De Mandiargues
Andr̩ Pieyre de Mandiargues (14 March 1909 Р13 December 1991) was a French writer born in Paris. He became an associate of the Surrealists and married the Italian painter Bona Tibertelli de Pisis (a niece of the Italian metaphysical painter Count Filippo Tibertelli de Pisis). He was a particularly close friend of the painter Leonor Fini. His novel ''La Marge'' (1967; Eng: ''The Margin'') won the Prix Goncourt and was made into a film of the same name by Walerian Borowczyk in 1976. It is his collection of pornographic items that is featured in Borowczyk's ''Une collection particuli̬re''. Borowczyk also used Mandiargues' work for the first story included in his anthology film Immoral Tales (film), ''Immoral Tales''. He also wrote an introduction to Anne Desclos's ''Story of O'' and was a signatory to the Manifesto of the 121. ''The Girl on a Motorcycle'' ( French: ''La motocyclette'') is a 1968 British-French erotic romantic drama film directed by Jack Cardiff, starring Alain Delon and Marianne Faithfull and featuring Roger Mutton, Marius Goring and Catherine Jourdan. It was listed to compete at the 1968 Cannes Film Festival but the festival was cancelled due to the May 1968 events in France. Marianne Evelyn Gabriel Faithfull (born 29 December 1946) is an English singer and actress. She achieved popularity in the 1960s with the release of her hit single " As Tears Go By" and became one of the lead female artists during the British Invasion in the United States. Endurance racing is a form of motorsport racing which is meant to test the durability of equipment and endurance of participants. Teams of multiple drivers attempt to cover a large distance in a single event, with participants given a break with the ability to change during the race. Endurance races can be run either to cover a set distance in laps as quickly as possible, or to cover as much distance as possible over a preset amount of time. Nürburgring
The is a 150,000 person capacity motorsports complex located in the town of Nürburg, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It features a Formula One, Grand Prix race track built in 1984, and a long "North loop" track, built in the 1920s, around the village and medieval castle of Nürburg in the Eifel mountains. Hockenheimring
The Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg () is a motor racing circuit situated in the Rhine valley near the town of Hockenheim in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, located on the Bertha Benz Memorial Route.
