Anjani Kumar Sharma
Anjani Kumar Sharma ( ne, अञ्जनी कुमार शर्मा) was Nepal's first surgeon. Sharma was born on June 7, 1928, in the remote region of Bhaluwahi in Siraha District in the Terai region of Nepal. Growing up in rural Nepal there was poor access to healthcare, because of this he lost his mother at age 8. Following her death he was inspired to become a doctor. With the help of his father and uncle he achieved his dreams. He completed his MBBS from Calcutta Medical College in 1955. He was awarded MS in Surgery from Darbhanga Medical College in India. He also went on to complete his FRCS from the UK. He is credited with establishing the Surgery Department at Bir Hospital, Nepal's oldest hospital. Sharma also established Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital. He has also chaired Nepal Medical Association (NMA). He was one of the 5 founding members of Nepal Medical College in Jorpati. Siraha District ( ne, सिराहा जिल्ला; ), a district in Madhesh Province, is one of the seventy-seven districts of Nepal. It is situated in the Terai belt of Nepal. Terai
The Terai or Tarai is a lowland region in northern India and southern Nepal that lies south of the outer foothills of the Himalayas, the Sivalik Hills, and north of the Indo-Gangetic Plain. This lowland belt is characterised by tall grasslands, scrub savannah, Shorea robusta, sal forests and clay rich swamps. Fellowship of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons (FRCS) is a professional qualification to practise as a senior surgeon in Ireland or the United Kingdom. Bir Hospital
Bir Hospital (बीर अस्पताल) is the oldest and one of the busiest hospitals in Nepal. It is located at the center of Kathmandu city. The hospital is run by the National Academy of Medical Sciences, a government agency since 2003. The hospital provides medical and surgical treatments. It current has a capacity of 535 beds.
