Animedia
is a Japanese monthly anime magazine by IID. First published on June 9, 1981. Overview Animedia was first published on June 9, 1981 by Gakken Holdings (currently IID). The magazine provides news and information on the anime industry, including cast and staff listings, broadcast schedules, and exclusive features and interviews. Along with "Animage" and "Newtype", it is one of the top three anime magazines and one of the top 10 selling anime magazines in Japan. Acquisition IID, the media company that runs the Anime! Anime! and Anime! Anime! Biz news websites, has announced its acquisition of Animedia and its sister magazine Seiyū Animedia from Gakken Plus publisher. IID also acquired the other irregularly published "mooks" (magazine books) and the Chō! Animedia website from Gakken Plus. Anime
is Traditional animation, hand-drawn and computer animation, computer-generated animation originating from Japan. Outside of Japan and in English, ''anime'' refers specifically to animation produced in Japan. However, in Japan and in Japanese, (a term derived from a shortening of the English word ''animation'') describes all animated works, regardless of style or origin. Animation produced outside of Japan with similar style to Japanese animation is commonly referred to as anime-influenced animation. The earliest commercial Japanese animations date to 1917. Animage
is a Japanese anime and entertainment magazine which Tokuma Shoten began publishing in July 1978. Hayao Miyazaki's internationally renowned manga, ''Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind'', was serialized in ''Animage'' from 1982 through 1994. Other titles serialized in ''Animage'' include ''Ocean Waves'' (1990–1992), a novel by Saeko Himuro, which was later made into a television movie by the same title. History ''Animage'' was established in 1978 as the first magazine devoted to animation and comics aimed at a general public and not professionals. In 2007 the magazine started its online edition. Newtype
is a monthly magazine publication originating from Japan, covering anime (and to a lesser extent, tokusatsu, manga, Japanese science fiction, seiyuu, and video games). It was launched by publishing company Kadokawa Shoten on March 8, 1985, with its April issue, and has since seen regular release on the 10th of every month in its home country. ''Newtype Korea'' is published in Korea. Spin-off publications of ''Newtype'' also exist in Japan, such as Newtype Hero/Newtype the Live (which are dedicated to tokusatsu) and ''NewWORDS'' (which is geared toward a more mature adult market), as well as numerous limited-run versions (such as ''Clamp Newtype''). The name of the magazine comes from the "Newtypes" in the Universal Century timeline of the ''Gundam'' series, specifically ''Mobile Suit Gundam'' (1979) and its sequel ''Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam'' (1985).
