Angur Baba Joshi
Angur Baba Joshi (; 15 August 1932 – 20 June 2020) was a Nepali social activist and the first Nepalese woman principal. Joshi died in 2020 in Kathmandu, Nepal, aged 87. She is widely renowned as a progressive figure in Nepal's education system, particularly for her role in women's empowerment in education with education policies and schemes. Early life She was born on 15 August1932 at Dilli Bazar, as daughter of Mr. Pitamber Prasad Panth, and Mrs. Deep Kumari Panth. Joshi was betrothed (in a time when early marriages were still the norm) at the age of 11 to the future Professor Dr. Bal Ram Joshi, who was just 12 then. She had one son, Kiran, and two daughters, Prava and Jyoti. Education field After returning from England, where she graduated from Oxford University, she started her career as the principal of ''Padma Kanya College'', the first women's college in Nepal, from 1953 until 1973. Jagadamba Shree Puraskar () is an award given for contribution to Nepali Language, Literature, Art and Folk Culture Field. It is awarded to a person or an organization who has contributed in the field of Nepali language, literature, art or folk culture fields. It is presented alongside Madan Puraskar by Madan Puraskar Pustakalaya, on the day of Ghatasthapana; the first day of Dashain festival. History It is named after Rani Jagadamba Kumari Devi, the wife of General Madan Shumsher JBR an daughter in law of Prime Minister Chandra Shumsher JBR. It was established in 1989 (2045 BS) in Nepal. Nepali singer Narayan Gopal was the first to win this award for his contribution to Nepali music. Since 2075 BS, the award prize has been increased to NRs. 400,000. Rangu Souriya is an Indian activist and social worker for women and children. She is the founder of Kanchanjunga Uddhar Kendra, a non-profit organization based in Siliguri, dedicated to helping victims of sex trafficking in Darjeeling, North East India and Nepal. She was awarded the Godfrey Phillips National Bravery Awards in 2011. Work In 2004, Souriya went to Kathmandu to seek guidance from Anuradha Koirala and team Maiti Nepal. After interacting and learning from them, she came back to Darjeeling and started Kanchanjunga Uddhar Kendra.
