Angu Motzfeldt
Angu Motzfeldt (born 1976) is a Greenlandic singer, composer, and songwriter. He was born in Qaqortoq, Greenland, and later moved to Nuuk. His music appeared on the soundtrack to Inuk Silis Høegh's prize-winning documentary ''Eskimo Weekend'', as well as in ''Nuummioq''. He appeared on the Danish TV series ' as well. In 2004, his debut album ''Angu'' was released in Greenland and Denmark, which sold 5000 copies each, for which he received a gold record award in Greenland. He then moved to Copenhagen to work on his music career. He was nominated for a Danish Music Award in the category New Act of the Year. His single "Red Lights" was number one on (Nordic) MTV's Up North chart. In 2007, he released his second album, ''Burning Blue Skies''. Music Of Greenland
The music of Greenland is a mixture of two primary strands, Inuit music, Inuit and Denmark, Danish, mixed with influences from the United States and United Kingdom. Greenland's musical character has been described as "definitely a rock country, both musically and literally" according to Greenlandic drummer Hans Rosenberg. The Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs describes all Greenlandic music except the drum dances as influenced by external styles. Folk music The Inuit and the Danish peoples of Greenland have both maintained their distinct styles of folk music. Country-wide folk traditions included storytelling, which declined greatly after the introduction of the South Greenland Printing Press in 1857. Traditional music which has best survived European contact can be found in the east and northeast of the island. Qaqortoq
Qaqortoq, formerly Julianehåb, is a city in the Kujalleq municipalities of Greenland, municipality in southern Greenland, located near Cape Thorvaldsen. With a population of 3,050 in 2020, it is the most populous town and the municipal capital in southern Greenland and the fourth or list of cities in Greenland, fifth-largest town on the island. Nuuk
Nuuk (; da, Nuuk, formerly ) is the capital and largest city of Greenland, a constituent country of the Kingdom of Denmark. Nuuk is the seat of government and the country's largest cultural and economic centre. The major cities from other countries closest to the capital are Iqaluit and St. John's in Canada and Reykjavík in Iceland. Nuuk contains a third of Greenland's population and its tallest building. Nuuk is also the seat of government for the Sermersooq municipality. In January 2021, it had a population of 18,800. The city was founded in 1728 by the Dano-Norwegian missionary Hans Egede when he relocated from the earlier Hope Colony () where he arrived in 1721. Inuk Silis Høegh
Inuk Silis Høegh (born 1972 in Qaqortoq, Greenland, Kingdom of Denmark) is a Greenlandic artist and filmmaker. The son of artist Aka Høegh and photographer and film artist Ivars Silis, he grew up in an artistic environment, and his sister is Bolatta Silis Høegh, also an artist. Background and education Høegh received the Niels Wessel Bagges Grant in 2005, completing a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts (2010) and a Master of Arts in Film and TV Production from the University of Bristol (1997). Career Filmmaking Høegh's 2002 documentary "Eskimo Weekend" followed a Greenlandic rock band over a weekend, and has been credited with challenging stereotypes about Inuit. In 2014 Høegh released the documentary Sumé: Sound of a Revolution about the groundbreaking Greenlandic rock band Sumé. ''Nuummioq'' is a 2009 Greenlandic drama film directed by Otto Rosing and Torben Bech and produced by Mikisoq H. Lynge. ''Nuummioq'' means "a man from Nuuk" in the Greenlandic language. ''Nuummioq'' premiered in Nuuk on 31 October 2009. Plot Malik, a 35-year-old construction worker from Nuuk discovers the love of his life at the time when he is diagnosed with cancer. He faces the choice of staying in Greenland with Nivi, the woman he has come to love − or leaving for Denmark in search of medical treatment. MTV (Nordic TV Channel)
MTV Nordic was a pan-European cable television network launched on 5 June 1998. A 24-hour English-language network aimed at viewers in the Nordic countries and other European territories. Between 1998 and 2006 MTV Nordic served the majority of European territories (that did not have their own localized MTV channel) under the branding MTV Europe & Nordic. The majority of programming was hosted by presenters from the Nordic countries, mainly Sweden, Denmark and Norway. Additional veejays came from Israel, United States, Ireland and the United Kingdom. KODA (Denmark)
KODA is the collecting society for songwriters, composers and music publishers of Denmark. Its role is to act as an agent for its members in order to collect license fees whenever their musical works are performed in public, broadcast or transmitted, and to pay out performing royalties. In 1935, an agreement reached with and a concession were given by the Danish Ministry of Culture in which the public performance rights were established. In April 2020, YouTube's licensing deal with KODA expired. On July 30, 2020, YouTube threatened to block music videos containing content from KODA over royalty fees. KODA claimed that YouTube wanted to reduce royalty payments by 70 percent. Polaris Nordic, an alliance of societies consisting of KODA, TONO (Norway), and Teosto (Finland), has been negotiating with YouTube for a new Scandinavia-wide licensing agreement.
