Angela Uzielli
Angela Mary Uzielli ( Carrick, 1 February 1940 – 4 November 1999) was an English amateur golfer. She won the 1977 British Ladies Amateur, the 1990 English Women's Amateur Championship and won the Women's Senior Amateur six times in the 1990s. She played in the 1978 Curtis Cup. Golf career In 1968, Uzielli reached the final of the Wills Women's National Match Play, losing to New Zealander Heather Booth in the final. Uzielli won the 1977 British Ladies Amateur at Hillside Golf Club, beating Vanessa Marvin 6&5 in the final. She won the English Women's Amateur Championship in 1990 at the age of 50, beating Linzi Fletcher in the final. She had been a runner-up in 1976, losing to Lynne Harrold. Playing with Wilma Aitken she won the Avia Foursomes in 1982. She was also three times a runner-up in the event, in 1977, 1979 and 1988. Swanton Morley
Swanton Morley is a village and civil parish situated in the English county of Norfolk. It is situated in the heart of Norfolk 18 miles from the centre of Norwich and three miles from Dereham, at the geographical centre of Norfolk. It covers an area of and had a population of 2,415 in 783 households at the 2001 census, reducing to a population of 2,100 in 723 households at the 2011 Census. Women's Home Internationals
The Women's Home Internationals were an amateur team golf championship for women contested between the four Home Nations of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland, where Ireland was represented by the whole island of Ireland on an All-Ireland basis. After the Ladies' Golf Union, the former governing body for women's golf in Great Britain and Ireland, merged into The R&A in 2016, The R&A took over organisation of the event. The match was played annually and the venue cycled between the four nations. In 2022 the match was replaced by a combined Women's and Men's Home Internationals. The event started in 1905 when Mr. T. 1977 European Ladies' Team Championship
The 1977 European Ladies' Team Championship took place 6–10 July at Real Club de Golf Sotogrande in Sotogrande, Province of Cádiz, Spain. It was the tenth women's golf amateur European Ladies' Team Championship. Venue The hosting club was founded in 1964 and the course was designed by Robert Trent Jones. It had previously hosted the men's professional Open de España in 1966. In 1994, His Majesty King Juan Carlos I granted to Sotogrande the title of Real. The championship course was set up with par 72. Format All participating teams played two qualification rounds of stroke-play with up to five players, counted the four best scores for each team. The Apawamis Club
The Apawamis Club is a private country club located in Rye, New York, Westchester County, long known for its 18-hole golf course and prominence in the sport of squash. The 1911 U.S. Amateur Championship was contested here, resulting in a playoff between the reigning British Amateur champion, Harold Hilton, and his lesser-known American opponent, Fred Herreshoff. Apawamis is also the home base of a nationally recognized junior squash program and hosts the world renowned Briggs Cup tournament. Vagliano Trophy
The Vagliano Trophy is a biennial women's amateur golf tournament. It is co-organised by The R&A and the European Golf Association and is contested by teams representing "Great Britain and Ireland" and the "Continent of Europe". It is played in odd-numbered years; the Curtis Cup being played in even-numbered years. The event started in 1931 as a match between Great Britain and France. It was played annually from 1931 to 1939 and from 1947 to 1949, before becoming a biennial event from 1949 to 1957. Britain won 15 of the 16 matches with the 1934 match being tied. From 1949 to 1957 Great Britain had also played a biennial match against Belgium. In 1959 the two matches were replaced by one with Britain playing a team representing the Continent of Europe, the Vagliano Trophy being used for the new event. European Ladies' Team Championship
The European Ladies' Team Championship is a European amateur team golf championship for women organised by the European Golf Association. The inaugural event was held in 1959. It was played in odd-numbered years from 1959 to 2007 and has been played annually since 2008 (with the exception of 2012). Format Currently, the championship is contested by up to 20 teams, each of 6 players. The format consists of two rounds of strokeplay, out of which the five lowest scores from each team's six players will count each day. The total addition of the five lowest scores will constitute the team's score and determine the teams qualified for the last three rounds of matchplay. Only teams in contention for a medal will play a match format of two foursomes and five singles, while the other teams will play a one foursome and four singles match format. Avia Foursomes
The Avia Foursomes was a women's foursomes golf tournament contested annually from 1958 to 1989. It was held at Sunningdale Golf Club in its first year but was then played at the Berkshire Golf Club near Ascot, Berkshire. The event consisted of 72 holes of stroke play. From 1958 to 1964 it was called the Kayser Bondor Foursomes and in 1965 Casa Pupo Foursomes before being sponsored by Avia watches from 1966. Avia withdrew their sponsorship after the 1989 event. In 1978 the event was opened up to professionals, although they had to play with an amateur. The 1958 event resulted in a tie, with two pairs equal on 317. An event was planned for 1964 but was abandoned because of snow. The 1971 event was reduced to 36 holes after rain caused the final day to be lost. Wilma Aitken
Wilma Dickson Aitken (later Leburn, born 24 January 1959) is a Scottish amateur golfer. She won the 1977 Girls Amateur Championship and was a three-time winner of the Helen Holm Scottish Women's Open Championship. She was runner-up in the 1981 British Ladies Amateur and played in the 1982 Curtis Cup. Golf career In July 1975, Aitken won the Scottish Girls Championship beating Suzanne Cadden by one hole in the final. She played for Scotland in the Girls Home Internationals later in the year and again in 1976, when Scotland won the title. In July 1977, she won the Scottish Girls title for the second time, beating Gillian Wilson narrowly in the final. The following month she played again in the Home Internationals and the week after won the Girls Amateur Championship, beating Sue Bamford, 2 and 1, in the final.
