Ang (surname)
Ang is a Hokkien and Teochew romanization of the Chinese surnames Wang (, ''Wāng'') and Hong (, ''Hóng''). Distribution In mainland China and Taiwan, names are recorded in Chinese characters and officially romanized using Hanyu Pinyin. However, Ang was the 12th-most-common surname among Chinese Singaporeans in the year 2000. In Southeast Asia, most of the Ang descendants have settled in Singapore and Penang of Malaysia. Their ancestors came from mainland China, mostly from Fujian, and some of their history could be traced up to four generations. A significant number of Ang descendants could be found in the Philippines. In the United States, it is much less common: the surname ranked 18,359th in 1990 and 11,317th in the year 2000. Hokkien Language
The Hokkien () variety of Chinese is a Southern Min language native to and originating from the Minnan region, where it is widely spoken in the south-eastern part of Fujian in southeastern mainland China. It is one of the national languages in Taiwan, and it is also widely spoken within the Chinese diaspora in Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and other parts of Southeast Asia; and by other overseas Chinese beyond Asia and all over the world. The Hokkien 'dialects' are not all mutually intelligible, but they are held together by ethnolinguistic identity. Sunny Ang Soo Suan (; – 6 February 1967), alias Anthony Ang, was a Singaporean racing driver and part-time law student who gained notoriety for the alleged murder of his girlfriend Jenny Cheok Cheng Kid near Sisters' Islands. Ang was charged and tried for murder in the High Court of Singapore solely based on circumstantial evidence and without a body, and his case attracted a lot of attention in Singapore given that he was the first to be tried for murder without a body in these two countries. On 19 May 1965, Ang was found guilty of murder by a unanimous decision in one of Singapore's last jury trials before its abolition in January 1970. Ramon See Ang (born January 14, 1954), also known by his initials RSA, is a Filipino businessman. He is the president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Top Frontier Investment Holdings, Inc., the largest shareholder of San Miguel Corporation. He is also the president and CEO of SMC and the chairman of Cyber Bay Corporation and Eagle Cement Corporation.
