Thiamine, also known as thiamin and vitamin B1, is a vitamin, an essential micronutrient, that cannot be made in the body. It is found in food and commercially synthesized to be a dietary supplement or medication. Phosphorylated forms of thiamine are required for some metabolic reactions, including the breakdown of glucose and amino acids. Food sources of thiamine include whole grains, legumes, and some meats and fish. Grain processing removes much of the vitamin content, so in many countries cereals and flours are enriched with thiamine. Aneirin , Aneurin or Neirin was an early Medieval Brythonic war poet. He is believed to have been a bard or court poet in one of the Cumbric kingdoms of the Hen Ogledd, probably that of Gododdin at Edinburgh, in modern Scotland. From the 17th century, he was usually known as Aneurin. Life Some records indicate that Aneirin was the son of Caunus (or Caw) and brother to Gildas. According to this version of his life, he was born at Dumbarton on the River Clyde. However, some scholars debate this parentage, and contend that these records are of later invention and are erroneous. Whoever his father was, Aneirin's mother, Dwywei is mentioned in ''Y Gododdin''. She may be the same lady who, according to Old Welsh pedigrees, married King Dunod who is generally thought to have ruled in the West Riding of Yorkshire. Aneurin "Nye" Bevan PC (; 15 November 1897 – 6 July 1960) was a Welsh Labour Party politician, noted for tenure as Minister of Health in Clement Attlee's government in which he spearheaded the creation of the British National Health Service. He is also known for his wider contribution to the founding of the British welfare state. He was first elected as MP for Ebbw Vale in 1929, and used his Parliamentary platform to make a number of influential criticisms of Winston Churchill and his Conservative government during the Second World War. Before entering Parliament, Bevan was involved in miner's union politics and was a leading figure in the 1926 general strike. Aneurin Rhys "Nye" Hughes (11 February 1937 – 27 March 2020) was a British diplomat known for his long involvement with the European Commission. He was the EU Ambassador to Norway and Iceland from 1987 to 1995 and to Australia and New Zealand from 1995 to 2002. Hughes was born in Swansea, Wales, and was fluent in both English and Welsh. He attended Swansea Grammar School, and also spent a year abroad in the U.S. at Oregon City High School, on an AFS exchange. Hughes went on to the University College Wales, Aberystwyth, graduating in 1961 with a double degree in Celtic studies and philosophy. He was president of the Aberystwyth University Students' Union. Aneurin M. Jones (1930 – 25 September 2017) was a Welsh painter. Life and work Jones was born in Cwm Wysg on the Brecknockshire/Carmarthenshire border to a farmer's family. He studied Fine Art at Swansea College of Art from 1950 to 1955. He then worked as a teacher at Ysgol y Preseli, Crymych (becoming Head of Art) until 1986. In 1978 Jones received a Rotary Award for outstanding service to Art. He exhibited regularly at the National Eisteddfod of Wales and won the main art prize there in 1981. Jones paintings often dwell on the old ways of life in the Wales countryside, sometimes making sketches at farm sales (where unwanted farm equipment ius sold off). He compared his life to that of a farmer, saying "An artist ploughs their own furrow; painting is very personal in terms of the pattern, the shape and the mood it creates."
