Andy Smith (born 6 July 1984) is an English former professional rugby league footballer who played as a . Smith was the first try scorer of the annual magic weekend in 2007. Background Smith was born in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, England. Early career A former junior player with the Wakefield based Westgate Wolves ARLFC where Smith topped the try scoring list one season with an impressive 87 tries, Smith came into the Bulls Squad midway through the 2001 season after a string of impressive displays in the Bulls Senior Academy side. Smith made great strides last year making twelve appearances as well as having a stint with his old boss Karl Harrison on loan at Salford. In 2006 Smith was awarded a special prize by the Bulls for finishing Top Try Scorer in the Senior Academy with 27. Magic Weekend
The Magic Weekend (known as the Dacia Magic Weekend for sponsorship reasons) is an annual event organised by the Rugby Football League in which an entire round of Super League matches is played over a weekend at a single stadium to promote the sport of rugby league. The first event was held at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff in 2007, and subsequent events have taken place at Murrayfield Stadium, Edinburgh; the Etihad Stadium, Manchester; St James' Park, Newcastle, and Anfield, Liverpool. Having established itself on the English rugby league calendar, the Magic Weekend formula has now been copied in other rugby league-playing nations: starting in France in 2017, and then in Australia, with the Magic Round in 2019. Brian McDermott (rugby League)
Brian G. McDermott (born 16 March 1970) is an English professional rugby league coach who was the head coach of Featherstone Rovers in the RFL Championship, resigning on 26 Sep 2022, after the loss to Batley Bulldogs. He is a former professional rugby league player. He was previously the head coach of Leeds in the Super League and of the USA national team. Nicknamed 'Big Mac', McDermott was a Great Britain international forward who played his entire career at club level for Bradford, winning Super League Grand Finals and Challenge Cups with them. He began his coaching career in 2003 as an assistant at Huddersfield, taking his first senior coaching role with Harlequins RL in 2006, before joining Leeds as head coach in 2010.
