''Andy Pratt'' is the second studio album by American singer-songwriter Andy Pratt, released in 1973 by Columbia Records. It was Pratt's first album of entirely new music since his debut ''Records Are Like Life'' in 1969. On release, Pratt received a positive critical reception, but had only modest commercial success. The only single issued from ''Andy Pratt'': "Avenging Annie" was also a moderate success, peaking at number 78 in the US. Critical reception In 1973, the album was ranked No. 3 on Dutch Muziekkrant OOR's list of best albums of 1973. And Al Kooper listed the album at No. 58 on his list of ''100 Greatest Recordings of All Time''. The album has consistently been praised by critics. Andy Pratt (singer-songwriter)
Andy Pratt (born January 25, 1947) is an American rock singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. In the 1970s, he made a number of experimental records, of which "Avenging Annie" was a commercial hit. Career Pratt's demo recording of ''Avenging Annie'' was given to the Brown University radio station WBRU in 1972. In early 1973, Pratt signed to Columbia Records by Clive Davis. He went into Aengus Studios, of Fayville, Massachusetts and released '' Andy Pratt'' in 1973, which had modest commercial success. The single, ''Avenging Annie'', peaked at number 78 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100, spending ten weeks on the chart. The song was re-recorded by The Who singer Roger Daltrey for his album ''One of the Boys'' in 1977. Pratt's original version of the single became the B side of Bruce Springsteen's "Blinded by the Light" on a CBS promotional disc, and was used on the soundtrack to the film ''Velvet Goldmine'' in 1998. Robert Thomas Christgau ( ; born April 18, 1942) is an American music journalist and essayist. Among the most well-known and influential music critics, he began his career in the late 1960s as one of the earliest professional rock critics and later became an early proponent of musical movements such as hip hop, riot grrrl, and the import of African popular music in the West. Christgau spent 37 years as the chief music critic and senior editor for ''The Village Voice'', during which time he created and oversaw the annual Pazz & Jop critics poll. ''One of the Boys'' is the third studio solo album by the Who's lead vocalist, Roger Daltrey. It was released in 1977, on Polydor in the UK, and MCA in the US. The sessions were recorded at the Who's Ramport Studios during the winter of 1976 (vocals were recorded at Pathe Marconi Studios in Paris, due to tax complications), and Daltrey allowed students from the local Battersea technical school to film them as an educational project. This also marked the first time that Daltrey had written or co-written a song since "Here for More" (released as the B-side of the Who's " The Seeker") in 1970, and ''Lisztomania'' in 1975. Daltrey's original choice for producers were Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, but they declined. Juma Santos, also known as Jumma Santos (January 15, 1948 – September 1, 2007), born James P. Riley, was a percussionist and master drummer known for his extensive work over four decades with African music, Caribbean music, jazz, fusion and R&B artists. Juma Santos (born James Reginald Riley) combined and fused styles and playing techniques of various African musical instruments, experimenting with rhythms, songs, and chants with modern jazz harmonies and melodic forms and structures. His career included performing with many noted artists on projects of historical significance, including recording on more than 75 albums. The trombone (german: Posaune, Italian, French: ''trombone'') is a musical instrument in the Brass instrument, brass family. As with all brass instruments, sound is produced when the player's vibrating lips cause the Standing wave, air column inside the instrument to vibrate. The bass guitar, electric bass or simply bass (), is the lowest-pitched member of the string family. Abraham Laboriel López Sr. (born July 17, 1947) is a Mexican-American bassist who has played on over 4,000 recordings and soundtracks. ''Guitar Player'' magazine called him "the most widely used session bassist of our time". Laboriel is the father of drummer Abe Laboriel Jr. and of producer, songwriter, and film composer Mateo Laboriel.
