Alfred Huet Du Pavillon
Alfred Huet du Pavillon (January 1829, in Blain, Loire-Atlantique – 1907, in Frohsdorf) was a French botanist. His brother, Édouard Huet du Pavillon (1819-1908), with whom he often collaborated, was also a botanist. He spent his childhood in Switzerland, later studying under botanist Alphonse de Candolle. From 1852 to 1856 he was curator of de Candolle's herbarium. In the 1850s he took a series of botanical expeditions to the Pyrénées, Armenia, Italy (including Sicily) and Sardinia. In Italy and Sicily, he was accompanied by Édouard Huet du Pavillon. With his brother, he amassed an impressive herbarium, and issued numerous series of exsiccatae. Primulaceae
The Primulaceae , commonly known as the primrose family (but not related to the Onagraceae, evening primrose family), are a family (biology), family of Herbaceous plant, herbaceous and woody flowering plants including some favourite garden plants and wildflowers. Most are Perennial plant, perennial though some species, such as Anagallis arvensis, scarlet pimpernel, are annual plant, annuals. The Pyrenees (; es, Pirineos ; french: Pyrénées ; ca, Pirineu ; eu, Pirinioak ; oc, Pirenèus ; an, Pirineus) is a mountain range straddling the border of France and Spain. It is based on assessment of the plants' performance under UK growing conditions. History The Award of Garden Merit is a mark of quality awarded, since 1922, to garden plants (including trees, vegetables and decorative plants) by the United Kingdom, Royal Horticultural Society (RHS). Awards are made annually after plant trials intended to judge the plants' performance under UK growing conditions. Trials may last for one or more years, depending on the type of plant being analyzed, and may be performed at Royal Horticulture Society Garden in Wisley and other gardens or after observation of plants in specialist collections. Androsace
''Androsace'', commonly known as rock jasmine, is a genus of flowering plants in the family Primulaceae, second only to ''Primula'' in the number of species. It is predominantly Arctic–alpine, with many species in the Himalayas (where the genus originated), the mountains of central Asia, the Caucasus, and the southern and central European mountain systems, particularly the Alps and the Pyrenees. Plants of this genus are sometimes known as rock jasmines or fairy candelabras, and are widely cultivated for their dense cushions covered in white or pink flowers. There are roughly 110 species. These plants have small entire or toothed leaves which form a basal rosette.
