Andriy Deryzemlya
Andriy Vasylovych Deryzemlya ( uk, Андрій Васильович Дериземля; born 18 August 1977) is a former Ukrainian biathlete who competed at the top level for eleven seasons before winning his first international medal, a bronze medal at the 2007 World Championship. In 2008 together with Oksana Khvostenko he won World Team Challenge. Deryzemlya retired from the sport after the end of the 2013–14 season, starting a political career. In the 2014 parliamentary election Deryzemlya took part at the single-mandate district No. 205 in Chernihiv Oblast and failed them having finished second with 14.1% of votes. Before that he had founded the Centre for Support of Army in August 2014. On November 29th, 2014, Deryzemlya refused from his plot of land in Chernihiv in favour of the family of perished in Donbass Ukrainian soldier. The men's sprint competition at the Biathlon World Championships 2007 was held on 3 February 2007. Info Ole Einar Bjørndalen took his thirteenth World Championships gold medal (including the five Olympic golds), though missing the very final shot threatened to lose him his title. However, most of the other early starters also missed shots, and after the first group of 24 top-placed skiers had finished, no one were within half a minute of Bjørndalen. Of the remaining skiers, only Michal Šlesingr and Maxim Tchoudov had placings among the top 30 in the overall World Cup ranking; Šlesingr completed a faultless shooting but was still six seconds behind from the range, and despite a fine finish he could not catch Bjørndalen, while Tchoudov's medal chances went as he missed twice in the standing shoot, also spending too much time at the range. The first Biathlon World Championships (BWCH) was held in 1958, with individual and team contests for men. The number of events has grown significantly over the years. Beginning in 1984, women biathletes had their own World Championships, and finally, from 1989, both genders have been participating in joint Biathlon World Championships. In 1978 the development was enhanced by the change from the large army rifle calibre to a small bore rifle, while the range to the target was reduced from 150 to 50 meters. Venues The Biathlon World Championships of the season takes place during February or March. Some years it has been necessary to schedule parts of the Championships at other than the main venue because of weather and/or snow conditions. The 44th Biathlon World Championships was held in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia from March 3–13, 2011. Championship highlights The Championships kicked off with the Mixed relay event which is seeking to make its way onto the Olympic programme for the 2014 games in Sochi. As the first event of the programme, it was finally given importance by the different teams, with all nations fielding their best teams, in difference to earlier world cup events. The 43rd Biathlon World Championships were held in Pyeongchang, South Korea from February 13 to February 22, 2009. It was the first time that the Biathlon World Championships were held in Asia (outside Asian Russia). It was the second time Östersund was hosting the Biathlon World Championships, the first being in 1970. It was also 50 years after the first Biathlon World Championships, which were held 1958 in Saalfelden, Austria. There were a total of 11 competitions: sprint, pursuit, individual, mass start, and relay races for men and women, and the relatively new mixed relay. The championships were dominated by the German, Norwegian, and Russian teams, which would win every competition and 28 of the 33 available medals.
