Andrew Torgashev
Andrew Torgashev (born May 29, 2001) is an American figure skater. He is the 2019 CS Asian Open Trophy silver medalist, the 2016 CS Tallinn Trophy bronze medalist, the 2018 JGP Lithuania champion, the 2015 U.S. national junior champion, and the 2023 U.S. national bronze medalist. Personal life Andrew Torgashev was born May 29, 2001, in Coral Springs, Florida. He is the son of Ilona Melnichenko and Artem Torgashev, who competed for the Soviet Union in ice dancing and pair skating respectively. He attended North Broward Middle School in Coconut Creek, Florida. Career Early career Torgashev began learning to skate in 2006. He was awarded the juvenile bronze medal at the U.S. Junior Championships in December 2010. The 2017–18 Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final and ISU Junior Grand Prix Final took place from 7 to 10 December 2017 at the Nagoya Civic General Gymnasium (Nippon Gaishi Hall) in Nagoya, Japan. 2016–17 ISU Junior Grand Prix
The 2016–17 ISU Junior Grand Prix was the 20th season of a series of junior international competitions organized by the International Skating Union. It was the junior-level complement to the 2016–17 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating. Skaters competed for medals in the disciplines of men's single skating, singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dance, as well as for qualifying points. The top six skaters or teams from each discipline met at the 2016–17 Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final, 2016–17 Junior Grand Prix Final, which was held together with the senior final. Figure Skating Jumps
Figure skating jumps are an element of three competitive figure skating disciplines: Single skating, men's singles, women's singles, and pair skatingbut not ice dancing. Jumping in figure skating is "relatively recent". They were originally individual compulsory figures, and sometimes special figures; many jumps were named after the skaters who invented them or from the figures from which they were developed. It was not until the early part of the 20th century, well after the establishment of organized skating competitions, when jumps with the potential of being completed with multiple revolutions were invented and when jumps were formally categorized. The 2015 World Junior Figure Skating Championships was an international figure skating competition in the 2014–15 season. Commonly called "World Juniors" and "Junior Worlds", the event determined the World Junior champions in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. The event was held on 2–8 March 2015 at the newly constructed Tondiraba Ice Hall in Tallinn, Estonia. Eastern Sectional Figure Skating Championships
The Eastern Sectional Figure Skating Championships is an annual figure skating competition sanctioned by U.S. Figure Skating which has been held since 1938. Skaters compete in five levels: Senior, Junior, Novice, Intermediate, and Juvenile. Medals are awarded in four disciplines: Ladies singles, Men's singles, Pairs, and Ice dance. Medals are given out in four colors: gold (first), silver (second), bronze (third), and pewter (fourth). The ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating (titled the ISU Junior Series in the 1997–98 season) is a series of international junior-level competitions organized by the International Skating Union. Coconut Creek is a city in Broward County, Florida, United States. Situated north of Miami, it had a population of 57,833 in 2020. Pair skating is a figure skating discipline defined by the International Skating Union (ISU) as "the skating of two persons in unison who perform their movements in such harmony with each other as to give the impression of genuine Pair Skating as compared with independent Single Skating".S&P/ID 2021, p. 109 The ISU also states that a pairs team consists of "one Woman and one Man". Pair skating, along with men's and women's single skating, has been an Olympic discipline since figure skating, the oldest Winter Olympic sport, was introduced at the 1908 Summer Olympics in London.
