Andrew Mevis (born October 12, 1998) is an American football placekicker who is a free agent. He played college football at Fordham and Iowa State. Professional career After going unselected in the 2022 NFL Draft, Mevis was signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent. Mevis was cut by the Jaguars on July 29, 2022, as Jacksonville tried out 4 kickers following Mevis going 1-4 on field goals during a practice session the day before on July 28. Jacksonville signed kicker Elliott Fry as Mevis's replacement. Placekicker, or simply kicker (PK or K), is the player in gridiron football who is responsible for the kicking duties of field goals and extra points. In many cases, the placekicker also serves as the team's kickoff specialist or punter. Specialized role The kicker initially was not a specialized role. Prior to the 1934 standardization of the prolate spheroid shape of the ball, drop kicking was the prevalent method of kicking field goals and conversions, but even after its replacement by place kicking, until the 1960s the kicker almost always doubled at another position on the roster. George Blanda, Lou Groza, Frank Gifford and Paul Hornung are prominent examples of players who were stars at other positions as well as being known for their kicking abilities. Harrison Mevis (born March 27, 2002), nicknamed the Thiccer Kicker, is a college football kicker for the Missouri Tigers. Early years Mevis attended Warsaw Community High School in Warsaw, Indiana. Ranked the number 8 overall kicker in the class of 2020, he committed to Missouri. College career As a freshman, Mevis went 17/20 (85%) on field goals including a game winning field goal against Arkansas. He also went 28/28 on PATs as a freshman. As a sophomore, Mevis emerged as one of the premier place kickers in the nation, going 23/25 (93%) on field goal attempts. He also was a perfect 3/3 on field goals longer than 50 yards with a long of 56 yards. Mevis was also a perfect 41/41 of PATs. He has played for the Baltimore Ravens, Chicago Bears, Carolina Panthers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Kansas City Chiefs, Cincinnati Bengals, and the Alliance of American Football's Orlando Apollos.
