Andrew Coscoran
Andrew Coscoran (born 18 June 1996) is an Irish athlete who specializes in middle distance running. In 2022, he became the Irish national record holder over the 1500 metres. Early life Coscoran is from Balbriggan and attended Saint Mary's Diocesan High School in Drogheda. He joined Star of the Sea AC in 2010 as a teenager and quickly developed a passion for middle distance running. Aged 18 years old he was awarded an athletic scholarship to attend Florida State University. Coscoran returned, however, to Ireland to study at Dublin City University and has had marked success with Dublin Track Club and coach Feidhlim Kelly. Career Coscoran won the 2020 Irish Indoor Championships in the 1500 metres. In 2021, he took the national outdoor title, and ran new personal bests throughout the year. Diamond League
The Diamond League is an annual series of elite track and field athletic competitions comprising fourteen of the best invitational athletics meetings. The series sits in the top tier of the World Athletics (formerly known as the IAAF) one-day meeting competitions. The inaugural season was in 2010. It was designed to replace the IAAF Golden League, which had been held annually since 1998. The full sponsorship name is the Wanda Diamond League, the result of an agreement with Wanda Group that was announced in December 2019. Ray Flynn (athlete)
Raymond P. Flynn (born 22 January 1957) is a retired middle-distance runner who works as a sports agent. Over the course of his racing career, Flynn ran a total of 89 sub-four minute miles, with his best time (and current Irish mile record) of 3:49.77 on 7 July 1982 in Oslo, Norway at the Bislett Games Dream Mile. He also holds the current Irish 1500 meter record of 3:33.5, set in the same Oslo race. Birmingham Indoor Grand Prix
The Birmingham Indoor Grand Prix, formerly known as Aviva Indoor Grand Prix, is an annual indoor track and field competition which is held in mid-February at the Arena Birmingham in Birmingham, England. It is one of a handful of events to hold IAAF Indoor Permit Meetings status. As one of the later major meetings of the indoor athletics season, it often serves as preparation for the biennial European Athletics Indoor Championships and IAAF World Indoor Championships. The meeting is directed by former athlete Ian Stewart and attracts numerous high calibre athletes including World and Olympic medallists. Marcus O'Sullivan
Marcus O'Sullivan (born in Cork, Ireland on 22 December 1961) is an Irish retired middle-distance runner. He competed for Ireland at four Summer Olympics. After Steve Scott and John Walker, he is the third all-time by total of sub-4 minute miles run over the course of his career, at 101. Running career Although he wasn't planning to go to any of Ireland's universities, O'Sullivan's running encouraged him to go to Villanova University at 19. While competing on a collegiate level, he worked towards a degree in accounting and later attained an MBA and a CPA. The three World Indoor 1500 metre Championships won by O'Sullivan were in 1987 (Indianapolis), 1989 (Budapest), and 1993 (Toronto). In his victories in 1987 and 1989, he set championship records.
