Andrei Mercea
Andrei Mercea (16 March 1925 – 24 January 2002) was a Romanian football forward. Club career Andrei Mercea was born on 16 March 1925 in Arad, Romania and started playing football at junior level at local clubs SG Arad and Gloria Arad. He started his senior career, making his Divizia A debut on 15 September 1946 for ITA Arad in a 8–4 victory against Dermagant Târgu Mureș. He won the title with ITA in the first two seasons of his career, at the first contributing with 12 goals scored in 22 appearances and in the second he played 21 games and scored 5 goals, also winning a Cupa României. In 1948 he went to play for CSCA București where on 21 November 1948 he appeared in the first ever CSCA București – Dinamo București derby which ended with a 1–0 loss. 1947–48 Cupa României
The 1947–48 Cupa României was the 11th edition of Romania's most prestigious football cup competition. The title was won by ITA Arad against CFR Timișoara. Format The competition is an annual knockout tournament. In the first round proper, two pots are made, the first pot with Divizia A teams and other teams until 16 and the second pot with the rest of teams qualified in this phase. First-pot teams will play away. Each tie is played as a single leg. In the first round proper, if a match is drawn after 90 minutes, the game goes in extra time, and if the score is still tied after 120 minutes, the team from the lower league will qualify. Stadionul Republicii (, ''Stadium of the Republic'') was a multi-use stadium in Bucharest, Romania. It was used mostly for football (soccer), football matches. The stadium was able to hold 28,026 spectators at its height and originally opened in 1926. It hosted 42 matches for the Romania national football team, 1 match for the Olympic National Team, 22 Romanian Football Cup finals and 15 European Cup matches. The stadium was originally built in 1926 as the Stadionul Oficiul Național de Educație Fizică, or simply Stadionul ONEF, and inaugurated on 9 May 1926 with a rugby match against the French army.
