Andreas Kornhuber
(Georg) Andreas von Kornhuber (2 August 1824, Kematen, Oberösterreich – 21 April 1905, Vienna) was an Austrian naturalist and paleontologist. In 1850 he earned his doctorates in philosophy and medicine from the University of Vienna, followed by several years as an instructor of natural history in Pressburg (1850–60). In 1861 he was appointed professor of geology and botany at the Vienna University of Technology. Carsosaurus
''Carsosaurus'' is a genus of extinct amphibious reptiles, in the mosasaur superfamily, containing only the species ''Carsosaurus marchesetti''. It is known from a single individual that lived during the Upper Cretaceous in what is now Slovenia. The specimen is well-preserved, containing many different bones as well as some skin impressions and sternal cartilage. While more remains are needed to be certain, it is generally thought to belong to Aigialosauridae. In life, it was an amphibious creature that spent most of its time on land, although its later relatives would become fully aquatic. Discovery and naming ''Carsosaurus marchesetti'' was described from a single, mostly complete skeleton at the Civico Museo di Storia Naturale di Trieste, uncovered from the Karst Plateau near Komen (modern-day Slovenia) by Andreas Kornhuber in 1893. Dalmatia
Dalmatia (; hr, Dalmacija ; it, Dalmazia; see #Name, names in other languages) is one of the four historical region, historical regions of Croatia, alongside Croatia proper, Slavonia, and Istria. Dalmatia is a narrow belt of the east shore of the Adriatic Sea, stretching from the island of Rab in the north to the Bay of Kotor in the south. The Early Cretaceous ( geochronological name) or the Lower Cretaceous (chronostratigraphic name), is the earlier or lower of the two major divisions of the Cretaceous. It is usually considered to stretch from 145 Ma to 100.5 Ma. Komen
Komen (, it, Comen or ''Comeno'') is a settlement in Slovenia. It is the seat of the Municipality of Komen. It is located on the Karst Plateau in the Slovenian Littoral. Name Komen was attested in written sources in 1247 as ''Cominum'' (and as ''Cumin'' in 1255, ''de Cumino'' in 1269, and ''Comein'' in 1526). The name is probably derived from the Slavic common noun ''*komъ'' 'hill, mountain, elevation'. Derivation from the noun ''komin'' 'stove, chimney' is unlikely for accentual reasons. The Italian name, which is derived from the Slovene name, is given as ''Comen'' in older sources and ''Comeno'' in newer sources. Karst
Karst is a topography formed from the dissolution of soluble rocks such as limestone, dolomite, and gypsum. It is characterized by underground drainage systems with sinkholes and caves. It has also been documented for more weathering-resistant rocks, such as quartzite, given the right conditions. Subterranean drainage may limit surface water, with few to no rivers or lakes. However, in regions where the dissolved bedrock is covered (perhaps by debris) or confined by one or more superimposed non-soluble rock strata, distinctive karst features may occur only at subsurface levels and can be totally missing above ground. Lizards are a widespread group of squamate reptiles, with over 7,000 species, ranging across all continents except Antarctica, as well as most oceanic island chains. Lesina, Croatia
Hvar (; Chakavian: ''Hvor'' or ''For'', el, Φάρος, Pharos, la, Pharia, it, Lesina) is a Croatian island in the Adriatic Sea, located off the Dalmatian coast, lying between the islands of Brač, Vis and Korčula.
