Andreas Kempf
Andreas "Kempfi" Kempf (born 4 June 1967) is a German curler from Munich. He currently plays lead for the German national team, skipped by Andy Kapp. Kempf originally played lead for the Roland Jentsch rink, but moved to the Kapp rink in 2005. He shared the lead duties with Holger Höhne, on this five-player team. He won a bronze medal at the 2005 Ford World Men's Curling Championship and a silver at the 2007 Ford World Men's Curling Championship. For the 2008-09 season, the team reverted to a four-player team. Kempf would be the odd man out for the 2008 European Curling Championships, which he went to as an alternate, but did not play any games. Curling
Curling is a sport in which players slide stones on a sheet of ice toward a target area which is segmented into four concentric circles. It is related to bowls, boules, and shuffleboard. Two teams, each with four players, take turns sliding heavy, polished granite stones, also called ''rocks'', across the ice ''curling sheet'' toward the ''house'', a circular target marked on the ice. Each team has eight stones, with each player throwing two. The purpose is to accumulate the highest score for a ''game''; points are scored for the stones resting closest to the centre of the house at the conclusion of each ''end'', which is completed when both teams have thrown all of their stones once. A game usually consists of eight or ten ends. The player can induce a curved path, described as ''curl'', by causing the stone to slowly rotate as it slides. Holger Höhne
Holger "Holgi" Höhne (born 6 May 1970 in Füssen) is a German curler. He was a longtime member of the Andy Kapp rink. Currently, he coaches the German national women's team. Höhne has been playing with Kapp since 1992. However, he was only the team's alternate until joining the team as a regular thrower in 1995 at the lead position. Höhne's first tournament as lead was the 1995 Ford World Curling Championships, were the team won a bronze medal. This was added to Höhne's bronze medal at the 1994 Worlds as an alternate and a gold at the 1992 European Curling Championships. While playing lead for the team, Höhne won silver at the 1997 Ford World Curling Championships, a gold at the 1997 European Championships and a bronze at the 2005 Ford World Men's Curling Championship. The 2009 World Men's Curling Championship (branded as 2009 Ford World Men's Curling Championship presented by Atlantic Lottery for sponsorship reasons) was held in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada from April 4–12, 2009, at the Moncton Coliseum. Uli Kapp
Ulrich "Uli" Kapp (born 14 April 1971 in Füssen) is a retired German curler from Übersee. Career Kapp has played third for his brother Andy Kapp since 1992. Together, they have won European Curling Championships (1992 and 1997), two silver medals at the World Curling Championships (1997, 2007) and three bronze medals (1994, 1995 and 2005). He competed for Germany at the 1998 and 2006 Winter Olympics, finishing in eighth place on both occasions. Kapp had to have season-ending knee surgery after the 2007 European Curling Championships, and thus could not attend the 2008 World Men's Curling Championship with the rest of his team. World Curling Championships
The World Curling Championships are the annual world championships for curling, organized by the World Curling Federation and contested by national championship teams. There are men's, women's and mixed doubles championships, as well as men's and women's versions of junior and senior championships. There is also a world championship for wheelchair curling. The men's championship started in 1959, while the women's started in 1979. The mixed doubles championship was started in 2008. Since 2005, the men's and women's championships have been held in different venues, with Canada hosting one of the two championships every year: the men's championship in odd years, and the women's championship in even years. Andy Kapp
Andreas "Andy" Kapp (born 8 December 1967) is a German curler from Unterthingau. After a number of several tournaments at the Junior, Olympic and World Championship levels, Kapp surprised many by winning the 1992 European championship. The next year however, he finished only 7th, but at the 1994 World Championships he and his team won the bronze medal. The next year, Kapp would go on to win the bronze medal once again. Two years later, at the 1997 World Championships, Kapp achieved his best showing at a World Championship, as he led his team to a silver medal, losing to Sweden's Peja Lindholm in the final. Kapp would also win his second European championships in December that year, soon before the first ever official medal Olympics for curling in Nagano. He would have a disappointing 1998 Olympics though where as one of the top medal favorites he went 1-6, finishing in last place in the 8-team field.
