Andrea Gram
Grete Ingeborg Johanne Andrea Gram (20 March 1853 – 10 May 1927) was a Norwegian painter. She is best known for her landscapes and portraits. She was born at the family estate ''Ask gods'' in the village of Ask at Norderhov parish in Buskerud. She was a daughter of Major General Johan Georg Boll Gram (1809–1873). She was a sister of Jens Gram, granddaughter of Magistrate Jens Jensen Gram, first cousin of Gregers Winther Wulfsberg Gram and aunt of Johan Fredrik Gram and Mads Gram. She married Swedish physician Emil Kleen in 1881 and moved to Stockholm. Harriet Backer
Harriet Backer (21 January 1845 – 25 March 1932) was a Norwegian painter who achieved recognition in her own time and was a pioneer among female artists both in the Nordic countries and in Europe generally. She is best known for her detailed interior scenes, communicated with rich colors and the interplay of light and shadow. Biography Backer was one of four daughters born to an affluent family at Holmestrand in Vestfold, Norway. Her parents were Nils Backer (1815–1877) and Sofie Smith Petersen (1819–1882), and she was the aunt of the painter Astri Welhaven Heiberg (1881–1967). Her father was a shipping merchant and her mother was from a wealthy family. Her family moved to Christiania (Oslo) in 1856. Knut Helle
Knut Helle (19 December 1930 – 27 June 2015) was a Norwegian historian. A professor at the University of Bergen from 1973 to 2000, he specialized in the late medieval history of Norway. He has contributed to several large works. Early life, education and marriage He was born in Larvik as the son of school inspector Hermann Olai Helle (1893–1973) and teacher Berta Marie Malm (1906–1991). He was the older brother of politician Ingvar Lars Helle. The family moved to Hetland when Knut Helle was seventeen years old. He took the examen artium in Stavanger in 1949, and a teacher's education in Kristiansand in 1952. He studied philology in Oslo and Bergen, and graduated with the cand.philol. degree in 1957. Asta Nørregaard
Asta Nørregaard (13 August 1853 – 23 March 1933) was a Norwegian painter who is best known for her portraits. Biography Nørregaard was born in Christiania (now Oslo), Norway. She was the daughter of Hans Peter Nørregaard (1818–1872) and Elise Jacobine Hesselberg (1821–1853). She and an older sister were orphaned early and both remained unmarried. Asta Nørregaard received her early education at the Knud Bergslien painting school together with Harriet Backer. She was a pupil of Eilif Peterssen in Munich from 1875 to 1878. She studied in Paris during 1879. Nørregaard held solo exhibitions at Blomqvist Kunsthandel in 1893, 1903, 1913 and 1925. She was also a frequent exhibitor at group exhibitions: Salon de Paris in 1881 and 1882, and world exhibitions in Antwerp in 1885 and Paris 1889. Kitty Kielland
Kitty Lange Kielland (8 October 1843 – 1 October 1914) was a Norwegian landscape painter. Early life and training Kielland was born to an affluent family in Stavanger, the older sister of Alexander Kielland. Kielland's interactions with her brother were important in her development as an artist. Although she received some training in drawing and painting, it was not until she turned thirty that she was allowed to train as a professional artist. In 1873 she traveled to Karlsruhe where she was trained by Hans Gude. As a woman Kielland was forced to take private lessons from Gude instead of joining his landscape painting class. Gude's adherence to realism left a lasting impression on Kielland that was visible in her later works. Kielland made rapid progress during the two years she spent training with Gude.
