Anderson County Jr/Sr High School is a public secondary school in Garnett, Kansas, United States. It serves students in grades 7–12 and the only high school operated by the Garnett USD 365 school district. The school colors are red and white and the school mascot is the Bulldog. The district serves residents of Anderson County, including Garnett, Greeley, Welda, and Westphalia. Extracurricular activities Athletics The extracurricular activities offered at Anderson County Jr/Sr High School are relatively small and limited due to the school's small size. The Bulldogs are classified as a 4A school, the third-largest classification in Kansas according to the Kansas State High School Activities Association. Garnett is a city in and the county seat of Anderson County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 3,242. History Garnett was platted in 1857. Garnett is named for W. A. Garnett, a native of Louisville, Kentucky, and early promoter of the town of Garnett. The city includes three places listed on the National Register of Historic Places: Anderson County Courthouse, Sennett and Bertha Kirk House, and Shelley-Tipton House. Golf is a club-and-ball sport in which players use various clubs to hit balls into a series of holes on a course in as few strokes as possible. The Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) is the organization which oversees interscholastic competition in the U.S. state of Kansas at the high school, high-school level. It oversees both athletic and non-athletic competition, and sponsors championships in several sports and activities. History The Kansas State High School Activities Association was formed in 1937 and incorporated in 1956. As early as 1910, Kansas schools organized the statewide Debate League and Athletic Association governed by high school principals. The Athletic Association started as a small voluntary group of fewer than 50 schools and grew to more than 500 schools by the 1920s. Welda is an unincorporated community in Anderson County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the community and nearby areas was 149. History Welda was platted in 1873, soon after the railroad was extended to that point in 1870. The first post office in Welda was established in 1874 and was probably named for Welda in Germany. The railroad tracks in Welda have since been converted to a rail trail. The trail is part of the Prairie Spirit Trail State Park.
