Andahuaylas Airport
Andahuaylas Airport is a high-elevation airport serving Andahuaylas, Peru. It is an important airport in the Apurímac Region as being the only one capable of receiving commercial flights. It is operated by the civil government. Apart from its scheduled flights, it also has many charter flights. The airport is southeast of Andahuaylas, and sits on a mesa above the Chumbao River, which continues north and west into the town. There is high terrain in all quadrants. Andahuaylas (Quechua Antawaylla, ''anta'' copper, ''waylla'' meadow, "copper meadow") is a Peruvian city. It is the capital of the Andahuaylas Province in the Apurímac Region. It is known as the ''pradera de los celajes'' (Spanish for "prairie of colored clouds"). Its approximate population of 42,268 inhabitants ( 2017 census) makes it the first largest city in the region. Mesa
A mesa is an isolated, flat-topped elevation, ridge or hill, which is bounded from all sides by steep escarpments and stands distinctly above a surrounding plain. Mesas characteristically consist of flat-lying soft sedimentary rocks capped by a more resistant layer or layers of harder rock, e.g. shales overlain by sandstones. The resistant layer acts as a caprock that forms the flat summit of a mesa. The Ferrocarril Central Andino (FCCA; the former Ferrocarril Central del Perú) runs inland from Callao and Lima across the Andes watershed to La Oroya and Huancayo. It is the second highest railway in the world (following opening of the Qingzang railway in Tibet), with the Galera summit tunnel under Mount Meiggs at and Galera station at above sea level.
