Anca Măroiu
Anca Măroiu (née Băcioiu, born 5 August 1983) is a Romanian épée fencer. She is double team world champion, in 2010 and 2011, silver medallist at the 2012 European Fencing Championships and three-time European team champion (2006, 2009 and 2011). Career Măroiu first took up gymnastics, but found herself too tall in primary school. She switched to fencing, learning under Nicolae Mihăilescu, then Mircea Alecu. Being of a combative temperament, she chose épée, the weapon of the duel. When she was 14 years old she was selected into the national training centre for juniors within the Petrache Trișcu sports high school in Craiova under Dan Podeanu's coaching. She won the team bronze medal at the 2002 Junior European Championships in Conegliano. At the 2006 European Championships in İzmir she reached the semifinals, where she was defeated by Germany's Claudia Bokel and came away with a bronze medal. Craiova
Craiova (, also , ), is Romania's 6th Cities in Romania, largest city and capital of Dolj County, and situated near the east bank of the river Jiu River, Jiu in central Oltenia. It is a longstanding political center, and is located at approximately equal distances from the Southern Carpathians (north) and the Danube, River Danube (south). Craiova is the chief commercial city west of Bucharest and the most important city of Oltenia. Anna Sivkova
Anna Vitalyevna Sivkova (russian: Анна Витальевна Сивкова; born 12 April 1982) is a Russian épée fencer, 2004 Olympic team champion., three-time World team champion (2001, 2003, and 2013) and European team champion in 2012. Career Sivkova discovered fencing at the age of 10 on the advice of a family friend, who knew a fencing coach. She took up the sport at SDUShOR (sports school) No.7 near the Borisov Ponds in Moscow, where she first practiced foil under the coaching of Lyudmila Vyazovaya. After a year Vyazovaya switched to épée; Sivkova followed the move. She was the only girl at her club, but she found that winning against boys motivated her. After two years of training she began to resent the hard discipline and left for a while; she came back when she realised she needed fencing to let off steam. Olena Serhiyivna Kryvytska ( uk, Олена Сергіївна Кривицька, translit=Olena Sehijjivna Kryvyc'ka; born 23 February 1987) is a Ukrainian fencer who has won three world championship bronze medals. She competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the Women's épée, and was defeated in the second round. She was also part of the Ukrainian women's épée team that finished in 8th place. Fencing At The 2012 Summer Olympics
The fencing competitions at the 2012 Olympic Games in London were held from 28 July to 5 August at the ExCeL Exhibition Centre. Ten events (six individual, four team) were contested. The International Fencing Federation (FIE) had pushed for the inclusion of two more team events, but the International Olympic Committee voted to keep the current format of ten events. Li Na (fencer)
Li Na (; born 9 March 1981 in Dandong, Liaoning) is a Chinese épée fencer. She won a bronze medal in the women's team épée event at the 2000 Summer Olympics, and won gold in the same event at the 2012 Summer Olympics. Li won the gold medal in the épée team event at the 2006 World Fencing Championships, after beating France in the final. She accomplished this with her teammates Luo Xiaojuan, Zhang Li and Zhong Weiping. Li also reached fourth place in the individual épée event at the 2008 Summer Olympics, losing the play-off for third place 15–11 to Ildikó Mincza-Nébald of Hungary. Simona Gherman
Simona Gherman (née Alexandru; born 12 April 1985) is a retired Romanian épée fencer, European champion in 2012 and 2016. She was twice team World Champion in 2010 and 2011 and five-time team European Champion in 2008, 2009, 2011, 2014 and 2015. Career Gherman was born in Bucharest in 1985. Her first significant result was a team bronze medal with Loredana Iordăchioiu and Ana Maria Brânză at the 2004 Junior World Championships in Plovdiv. The same year, she won a Junior World Cup tournament in Palermo. Gherman then joined the senior national team captained by Brânză. Along with Iordăchioiu and Anca Măroiu, they won the European Championships in 2008 and 2009. Loredana Dinu
Loredana Dinu (born Iordăchioiu; born 2 April 1984) is a retired Romanian épée fencer, twice World champion and twice European champion with Romania. Biography Dinu began fencing at age 11 after coaches from different sports did a presentation at her school. Her first coaches were Dumitru Popescu and Radu Mitrăchioiu. She took part in her first national championship at age 15; she was defeated in the final by Ana Maria Brânză, with whom she would later fence for Romania. Dinu's first major results were a silver medal in the 2001 Junior World Championships and a bronze in the 2004 Junior World Championships. Ana Maria Popescu, formerly known as Ana Maria Brânză (, born 26 November 1984), is a Romanian left-handed épée fencer. Popescu is a four-time team European champion, 2013 individual European champion, and two-time team world champion. A five-time Olympian, Popescu is a two-time individual Olympic silver medalist and 2016 team Olympic champion. Personal life Brânză was born in 1984 in the Rahova district of Bucharest, the second of two children. A very energetic child, she was pushed by her parents towards sport. She first tried tennis because the courts were not far from home, but she left after one year because she was the only left-handed player and because of the lack of competitive events.
