Ana Paula Godinez Gonzalez (born November 26, 1999) is a Canadian freestyle wrestler. She is a two-time gold medalist at the Pan American Wrestling Championships. She won the silver medal in the women's 62 kg event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games held in Birmingham, England. Career Godinez won one of the bronze medals in the women's 62 kg event at the 2019 World Junior Wrestling Championships held in Tallinn, Estonia. A month later, she competed in the women's 62 kg event at the 2019 World Wrestling Championships held in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan. Godinez won the silver medal in her event at the 2021 Poland Open held in Warsaw, Poland. She competed in the women's 62 kg event at the 2021 World Wrestling Championships held in Oslo, Norway. The 2022 Commonwealth Games, officially known as the XXII Commonwealth Games and commonly known as Birmingham 2022, was an international multi-sport event for members of the Commonwealth of Nations that took place in Birmingham, England between 28 July and 8 August 2022. The sport of wrestling has been practiced in Canada for more than a century, with the first amateur wrestling championships being held at Toronto's Argonaut Rowing Club in 1901. The sport continued to grow during the 20th century and by 1969, the Canadian Amateur Wrestling Association was formed. Lupita "Loopy" Godínez (born September 6, 1993) is a Mexican-Canadian female mixed martial artist who competes in the Strawweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. As of November 14, 2023, she is #11 in the UFC women's strawweight rankings. Background At the age of 14, Godínez's father Carlos was approached by the cartel who demanded protection money. After he found a lot full of bullet-riddled cars and shattered windows, and answered phone calls with voices telling him his daughters’ names and schools, Carlos decided to take his family and leave. Telling his family that they were leaving for Disneyland, instead they landed in Vancouver, where they had to start from scratch. 2022 World Wrestling Championships
The 2022 World Wrestling Championships was the 17th edition of the World Wrestling Championships of combined events and was held between 10 and 18 September 2022 in Belgrade, Serbia. The UWW Bureau approved the candidature of Belgrade, Serbia as the host of the 2023 Senior World Championships. However, due to the restrictions on Russia for hosting World Championships in 2021–2022, Belgrade replaced the former city of Krasnoyarsk as the World Championships host for 2022. For 2023 the World Championships host will be reallocated to Russia. In addition, Russian and Belarusian athletes have been banned from 2022 World Championships.
