Amyntas B.C. ( gr, Α.Ο. Αμύντας), commonly known as Amyntas, is a Greek professional basketball club. The club's full name is Athlitikos Omilos Amyntas Ymittos B.C. The club is located in Dafni-Ymittos, Dafni, a suburb of Athens, Greece. The colors of the team are blue and orange. The club is named after the father of Philip II of Macedon, and grandfather of Alexander the Great, Amyntas III of Macedon. The club's emblem is King Amyntas. History Amyntas B.C. was originally founded in 1950. In 2010, Dafni and A.O. Amyntas merged, creating A.O. Amyntas Dafnis - Ymittos. The club then competed in the 2nd-tier level Greek A2 Basket League, during the 2010–11 season. After that, the two clubs separated again. Arena Amyntas plays its home games at the 600 seat Pyrkal Ymittos Indoor Hall. The Greek A2 Basket League ( el, Ελληνική Α2 Μπάσκετ Λιγκ, link=no), is a professional basketball league in Greece. It is the 2nd-tier level of pro competition, among clubs in the country. It is organized by the Hellenic Basketball Federation (E.O.K.). History In the 1986–87 season, the current format for Greek professional basketball, consisting of the A1 National Category and the A2 National Category was formed. The Greek basketball league system is a number of interconnected competitions for professional basketball clubs in Greece. The system has a hierarchical format with a promotion and relegation system between competitions at different levels. There are several different competitions in the system. The highest level competitions are the nationwide competitions: the Greek Basket League, the Greek A2 Basket League, the Greek B Basket League, and the Greek C Basket League. Christos Zoupas
Christos Zoupas ( Greek: Χρήστος Ζούπας, born 26 November 1944) is a retired Greek professional basketball player. At a height of 1.80 m (5 ft. 11 in.), he played at the point guard position. Club career Zoupas started playing basketball with Amyntas in 1960. He then moved to the Greek club AEK Athens in 1962. With AEK, he won 5 Greek League championships (1964, 1965, 1966, 1968, 1970). He also played in the final four of the FIBA European Champions Cup of the 1965–66 season, which was the first time that the EuroLeague ever used a final four system, thus being part of the first Greek team to play in a final four in the EuroLeague. He also helped AEK win the championship of the 2nd-tier Cup Winners' Cup of the 1967–68 season, which was the first European championship won by any Greek team. Costas Rigas
Costas Rigas ( el, Κώστας Ρήγας),(born March 29, 1944 in Greece), is a retired Greek pro basketball player, and a former pro basketball referee. Rigas is a member of the EuroLeague's 50 greatest contributors. In 2013, he was enshrined into the FIBA Hall of Fame. Playing career Rigas played club basketball with Amyntas, in Greece. He also played with the youth national team of Greece, in one game. Reffing career In 1977, Rigas became an international referee, and throughout his career, he refereed 23 title games. Dimitris Cheilaris ( el, Δημήτρης Χείλαρης, ; born August 18, 1990) is a Greek professional basketball player who last played for Charilaos Trikoupis of the Greek A2 Basket League. Born in Leonidio, he started his professional career with Amyntas. Subsequently, he moved to Filathlitikos, where he was a teammate with Giannis Antetokounmpo. He played one season of top-tier basketball with Rethymno BC, before returning to the second-tier to play for Iraklis Thessaloniki. Dafnis B.C. is a Greek professional basketball club. The club's full name is Athlitikos Omilos Dafnis B.C., or A.O. Dafnis B.C. The club is located in Dafni, Athens, Greece. The colors of the team are yellow and black, and the team's symbol is the laurel branch. History The athletic organization's parent athletic union, the A.O. A.C. Amyntas III (Greek: Αμύντας Γ΄ της Μακεδονίας) (420 – 370 BC) was king of the Ancient Greek kingdom of Macedonia in 393 BC and again from 392 to 370 BC.
