Amnon Barzel
Amnon Barzel ( he, אמנון ברזל, born 1935, in Tel Aviv) is an internationally known art curator and author. Education Barzel is a graduate of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he majored in Natural Science. He earned his post-graduate degree in Art History at the University La Sorbonne in Paris. Career Upon his return to Israel Barzel became a lecturer at the Avni Institute. From 1970 onwards he contributed regularly to the Israeli Newspaper Ha'aretz; in addition he was a lecturer at the University of Haifa on 20th-century art and in 1971 he was a founding Editor of the IsraelI Art Magazine "Painting and Sculpture". Barzel was appointed Curator at the Venice Biennale for the Israeli Pavilion in 1976 and 1980 where he presented the work of Dani Karavan, Menashe Kadishman, Micha Ullman and Moshe Gershuni. Moshe Gershuni
Moshe Gershuni (11 September 1936 – 22 January 2017) was an Israelis, Israeli painter and sculptor. In his works, particularly in his paintings from the 1980s, he expressed a position different from the norm, commemorating The Holocaust in Israeli art. In addition, he created in his works a connection between bereavement and homoerotic sexuality, in the way he criticized society and Israeli Zionism-nationalism. He was awarded the Israel Prize for Painting for his work in 2003, but in the end it was revoked and he was deprived of receiving the prize. Biography Moshe Gershuni was born in 1936 to Yona and Zvi Kutner, who had migrated to Mandatory Palestine, British Mandate Palestine from Poland. Zvi, the head of the family, who was an agronomist and farmer, "hebraicized" the family name from Kutner to Gershuni, after his father. The festival of the Skira ( grc, Σκίρα) or Skirophoria ( grc, Σκιροφόρια) in the calendar of ancient Athens, closely associated with the Thesmophoria, marked the dissolution of the old year in May/June. Description At Athens, the last month of the year was '' Skirophorion'', after the festival. Its most prominent feature was the procession that led out of Athens to a place called Skiron near Eleusis, in which the priestess of Athena, the priest of Poseidon, and in later times, the priest of Helios, took part, under a ceremonial canopy called the ''skiron'', which was held up by the ''Eteoboutadai''. Giancarlo Politi (born 1937 in Trevi, Italy) is an art critic and publisher, mainly known for being the founder of ''Flash Art'' magazine. Magazine Politi was born in Trevi, in Umbria. He had a brief spell as an artist and poet before turning to art criticism. In 1965 he moved to Rome, where he started his own art magazine in 1967, a bilingual publication called ''Flash'', and then changed it to ''Flash Art''. In 1970 he moved the headquarters of the magazine to Milan, where he founded his own publishing house, Giancarlo Politi Editore. The São Paulo Art Biennial (Portuguese: ''Bienal de São Paulo'') was founded in 1951 and has been held every two years since. It is the second oldest art biennial in the world after the Venice Biennale (in existence since 1895), which serves as its role model.
