Amherst High School (Wisconsin)
Amherst High School is a public high school located in Amherst, Wisconsin. It serves grades 9 through 12 & is the only high school in the Tomorrow River School District. History The first dedicated high school building in Amherst was constructed in the spring of 1891; classes started that fall. The school switched from a three-year to four-year track in 1902. Demographics The student body of AHS is 95% white, 3% Hispanic, 1% Native American, and 1% of students identify as a part of two or more races. Academics Advanced Placement classes are offered at Amherst; just over a third of students take an AP exam. Athletics Falcons athletic teams compete in the Central Wisconsin Conference. Amherst is a village in Portage County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,035 in the 2010 census. Amherst is at the core of the Tomorrow Valley area. History The name Amherst was established in 1853 by Adam Uline, after General Jeffery Amherst of Revolutionary fame and the fact he was native of Amherst, Nova Scotia. The first known settler of Amherst was John F. Hillstrom, who arrived in 1851, while John and A. P. Een follow closely behind, arriving in August, 1852. Advanced Placement (AP) is a program in the United States and Canada created by the College Board which offers college-level curricula and examinations to high school students. American colleges and universities may grant placement and course credit to students who obtain high scores on the examinations. Tyler Biadasz ( ; born November 20, 1997) is an American football center for the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Wisconsin and was drafted by the Cowboys in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Early years Biadasz attended Amherst High School in Amherst, Wisconsin. He was named first-team all-state after his junior and senior seasons as a defensive tackle. The state coaches also named him honorable-mention All-state on offense both years. As a senior, he registered 70 tackles, 7 sacks, 5 forced fumbles and one interception, while receiving the Tim Krumrie Award as the state of Wisconsin's top high school defensive lineman as a senior. Garrett Groshek (born August 2, 1997) is an American football running back for the Pittsburgh Maulers of the United States Football League (USFL). He played college football at Wisconsin. Profesional career Las Vegas Raiders Groshek was signed by the Las Vegas Raiders after going undrafted on May 7, 2021. He was waived on August 31, 2021. Minnesota Vikings On November 16, 2021 the Minnesota Vikings signed Groshek to the practice squad. On November 23, 2021 he was released from the practice squad. Dylan Page (born March 28, 1982) is an American professional basketball player for Movistar Estudiantes of the Spanish Liga ACB. College career He played for the NCAA Division I Milwaukee Panthers from 2000-2004 where he, along with Clay Tucker, helped the Panthers to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 2003.
