American Football Association Of Finland
American Football Association of Finland (Finnish: Suomen Amerikkalaisen Jalkapallon Liitto, abbreviated SAJL) is the national governing body of American football in Finland. It was founded in 1979 and it is a founding member of the European Federation of American Football, EFAF and International Federation of American Football, IFAF. Since 2000, American football has grown steadily. In 2006 there were 27 clubs playing the sport with over 100 teams and over 1400 players. In 2012, the association's competitions fielded over 150 teams with more than 2200 licensed players. The President of the American Football Association of Finland is Roope Noronen. Members The sport, like it is in the vast majority of other sports, is club-based in Finland. In 2013, the association had a total of 36 active member clubs. American Football
American football (referred to simply as football in the United States and Canada), also known as gridiron, is a team sport played by two teams of eleven players on a rectangular field with goalposts at each end. International Federation Of American Football
The International Federation of American Football (IFAF) is the international governing body of gridiron associations. The IFAF oversees the IFAF World Championship of American Football, which is held every four years. The IFAF became a provisionary member of SportAccord in 2003, and became a full SportAccord member in 2005. The organisation's head office is located in the French commune of La Courneuve, in the Île-de-France region. Roope Noronen (born 1974) is the president of American Football Association of Finland, SAJL. Noronen has been the president of SAJL since 2001. Noronen has been vice-president of European Federation of American Football EFAF since 2001 and is currently elected to serve as Senior Vice-president until 2010. Noronen was also elected into Executive Board of International Federation of American Football IFAF as European representative in 2006. The Vaahteraliiga (Maple League) founded in 1980 is the highest level of American football in Finland played under American Football Association of Finland. The winner of the Vaahteraliiga is the Finnish champion. The Vaahteraliiga season is played in summer, with a schedule usually from May to September. Michael Quarshie
Michael Quarshie (born 13 November 1979 in Erlangen, Germany) is a Finnish American football defensive tackle. Quarshie was born in Germany in 1979. After living in Germany for six years and in Ghana for a short period, his family moved to Finland. He graduated from high school and completed his mandatory military service before moving to the U.S. to study and play football. Quarshie is a member of the Finnish men’s national team, which captured silver at the 2001 European Championships, and of the Finnish junior men’s national team, which captured the 1997 Nordic Championship. He played for the Helsinki Roosters club, winning the Finnish Maple (Championship) Bowl in 1997, 1999, and 2000. Seppo Evwaraye (born June 1, 1982) is a Finnish former offensive guard in American football and former general manager and interim head coach of Finnish team Wasa Royals of Maple league. Seppo was first signed by Carolina Panthers as a free agent in 2006, and also played for Minnesota Vikings as an international practice squad member. Career Playing career Evwaraye started playing football in his home city of Vaasa, Finland. Ken Meyer
Kenneth W. Meyer (July 14, 1925 – August 14, 2016) was an American football coach at the high school, collegiate and professional levels. He may be best remembered as the head coach of the National Football League's San Francisco 49ers in 1977, and winning two college national championships at Alabama coaching under Bear Bryant. Early years Ken Meyer was the son of Werner Meyer and Pauline (Uhrmacher). Meyer graduated from Ashtabula Harbor High School in 1943, and was inducted into the Ashtabula County Football Hall of Fame in 2004.
