Amateur Baseball Federation Of India
The Amateur Baseball Federation of India (ABFI) is the governing body for baseball in India. The ABFI was founded on 11 December 1983 in Rohtak, Haryana, and became a member of the Baseball Federation of Asia (BFA) and the International Baseball Federation in 1985. The federation was officially recognized as the national governing body of baseball in India by the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in 1991, and by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) in 2002. Baseball is a bat-and-ball sport played between two teams of nine players each, taking turns batting and fielding. The game occurs over the course of several plays, with each play generally beginning when a player on the fielding team, called the pitcher, throws a ball that a player on the batting team, called the batter, tries to hit with a bat. The objective of the offensive team (batting team) is to hit the ball into the field of play, away from the other team's players, allowing its players to run the bases, having them advance counter-clockwise around four bases to score what are called " runs". India Women's National Baseball Team
The India women's national baseball team is a national team of India and is controlled by the Amateur Baseball Federation of India. It represents the nation in women's international competition. The team is a member of the Baseball Federation of Asia. In 2004, India participated in the Women's Baseball World Series. The team was also scheduled to participate in the 2004 Women's Baseball World Cup but withdrew before the tournament. India made its debut in the Women's Baseball World Cup in 2008. India national baseball team is the national men's team of India in international-level baseball competitions. India has produced two players that have achieved Major League status in the United States: Rinku Singh and Dinesh Patel were both been contracted by the Pittsburgh Pirates organization in 2009, although Singh has since left the sport. Baseball is played in local clubs, schools and at the university level in India. History Baseball was played in Manipur as early as World War II when the US Army Air Force flew supplies to China over the Himalayas, known as " Flying the Hump", and the locals learned the game from the troops stationed there. The Amateur Baseball Federation of India was founded in 1983 and India's first national baseball championship occurred in 1985, taking place in New Delhi. That same year, it joined both the International Baseball Federation along with the Baseball Federation of Asia.
