Amandus Schibsted
Amandus Theodor Schibsted (5 May 1849 in Oslo, – 7 May 1913) was the owner and chief editor of '' Aftenposten''. He inherited the news paper from his father, Christian Schibsted, in 1879, but worked as a journalist in the same news paper from 1871. During his leadership the news paper developed to be Norway's leading and most widespread conservative daily. He gained distinction through well-organised, quick and reliable news service. When Amandus died in 1913, his wife Susane Adolphine Cathrine Schibsted (1849–1933) took over the ownership in the newspaper. Amandus Schibsted is buried at Vår Frelsers gravlund in Oslo. Christian Schibsted
Christian Michael Schibsted (21 February 1812 – 17 June 1878) was a Norwegian printer and publisher, known for establishing Schibsted Forlag and ''Aftenposten''. Early life and career He was born in Christiania as a son of Frederik Schibsted (1766–1822) and his wife Maria Larsen (c.1779–1818). At the age of ten he had lost both his parents, and already the year before he had been sent to an orphanage. He studied book printing between 1829 and 1833, and was hired by the newspaper ''Morgenbladet'' in 1836. In 1839 he acquired burghership and established the publishing house Schibsted together with Johan Jørgen Krohn. The publishing house got the name Schibsted in 1843, when Christian Schibsted bought Krohn's share. In June 1845 Schibsted married Therese Amalie Dahl, but she died already in February 1846. (''The Laborers' Encyclopedia'') is a Norwegian encyclopedia published in six volumes in the 1930s. It was the first reference book in Norwegian to have a pronounced class bias, and the first encyclopedia outside of the Soviet Union to be directed specifically at the working class. The publication had a connection with the Norwegian labor movement's goal to spread knowledge among the working and lower class, and in doing so could break the monopoly the middle class had on the dissemination of information in society. They thought that the existing encyclopedias had a middle class bias. The idea of such an encyclopedia came within the group that produced the laborers' magazine ''Arbeidermagasinet''. Oslo
Oslo ( , , or ; sma, Oslove) is the capital and most populous city of Norway. It constitutes both a county and a municipality. The municipality of Oslo had a population of in 2022, while the city's greater urban area had a population of in 2019, and the metropolitan area had an estimated population of in 2021.
