Amager Boulevard
Amager Boulevard is a street on Amager in Copenhagen, Denmark. It begins at Langebro Bridge and initially follows Stadsgraven east to a Y-junction from where it continues inland to Amagerbrogade while the street Ved Stadsgraven continues along the water to the Christmas Møllers Plads. History The southernmost portion of Christianshavns Enveloppe, a low rampart in front of Christianshavns Vold and Stadsgraven, was formerly located at the site where Amager Boulevard runs today. In front of it was a shallow-watered area. Amager's shoreline was then located approximately where Artillerivej runs today. In the 1880s, it was decided to build a new arsenal at the site as a replacement for Christian IV's Arsenal on Slotsholmen which had become too small. The southernmost portion of Christianshavns Enveloppe was removed and the area reclaimed and New Arsenal (Ny Tøjhus) was inaugurated in 1888. Islands Brygge
Islands Brygge (English: Iceland's Quay) is a harbourfront area in central Copenhagen, Denmark, located on the north-western coast of Amager. The neighbourhood is noted for its waterfront park Havneparken, which is one of the most popular areas along the Copenhagen harbourfront and the location of one of the Copenhagen Harbour Baths. Established through a series of land reclamations from the 1880s, it served both military, residential, industrial and dockland purposes. In the mid-20th century it developed an infamous reputation as a neglected industrial and dockland area, but since 2000 it has undergone massive redevelopment and has become a fashionable and attractive neighbourhood. It is characterized by a mixture of old buildings and modern architecture, with a number of old structures relating to the area's dockland past preserved and converted into new functions. Martin Borch
Martin Borch (1 March 1852 – 8 February 1937) was a Danish architect. Biography Borch was born at Skerngaard near Skjern, Denmark. He was the son of Frederik Borch (1807–1868) and Johanne Frederikke Borch née Frausing (1809–1886). He attended Randers Latin School from 1863 to 1866 and C.V. Nielsen's drawing school from 1868 to 1869. From 1869 to 1877, he attended the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. From 1886 to 1916, Borch was a permanent architect for the Danish sugar manufacturing company, De Danske Spritfabrikker. As a royal building inspector, he received many commissions for the University of Copenhagen and Danmarks Nationalbank. From 1893 to 1899, he was an assistant at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture. He received the Eckersberg Medal twice: in 1894 and in 1901. The Royal Mint of Denmark ( da, Den Kongelige Mønt) is a mint (coin), mint established by the Denmark, Danish monarchy in the early 16th century, which currently by law is the only company allowed to mint the Danish currency (Danish krone, DKK). Mønten Kollegium
Mønten Kollegium is a dormitory located at Amager Boulevard 115, close to Stadsgraven, in the Amager district of Copenhagen, Denmark. The Historicist building was originally constructed for the Royal Mint in 1923. History The Royal Mint was established by the crown in the beginning of the 16th century. It had been located at a number of different sites across the city but was from 1873 based in a building designed by Ferdinand Meldahl on Helbergsgade in Gammelholm. In the beginning of the 1920s, the building had become too small and it was therefore decided to construct a new building on Amager Boulevard. The architect Martin Borch was charged with the design of the new building which was inaugurated in 1923. The Royal Mint moved to Brøndby in 1975. Rigmor Andersen
Rigmor Andersen (11 December 1903, Aarhus - 10 March 1995, Søllerød) was a versatile Danish designer, educator and author. Above all she is remembered for maintaining the traditions of Kaare Klint's furniture school at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Early life The daughter of journalist Hans Emil Andersen, Rigmor Andersen was born in Aarhus, Jutland. After matriculating from Rysensteen Gymnasium in 1922 and a one-year drawing course at the technical school, she was admitted to the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts where she studied under Kaare Klint at his newly founded Furniture School. She was impressed by his analytical teaching method and his interest in functional solutions. Andreas Clemmensen
Andreas Clemmensen (7 August 1852 – 5 December 1928) was a Danish architect and royal building inspector. Early life and education Clemmensen was born on 7 August 1852 in Leck, Duchy of Schleswig, the son of Carl Frederik Clemmensen and Charlotte Laurence Hass. He trained at C.V. Nielsens Tegneskole and was admitted to the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1867, from which he left as an architect in 1875. During his studies he was a draftsman for Johan Daniel Herholdt and Hans J. Holm. He conducted travel studies in Italy, France, England and the Netherlands in the years 1880-83 and again in Italy 1901, 1906, 1921 and 1923. He was in Sweden in 1921. Career Clemmensen was chairman of the Academic Association of Architects (''Academic Arkitektforening'') 1904–07, royal building inspector 1904–1911. Statens Serum Institut (SSI, The State's Serum Institute), is a Danish sector research institute located on the island of Amager in Copenhagen. Its purpose is to combat and prevent infectious diseases, congenital disorders, and threats from weapons of mass destruction. History Founded in 1902 in the barracks of the Artillerivej road, it has now expanded to much more than its original size and is now one of Denmark's largest research institutions in the health sector. 20% of sales are used on Research and Development and Danish and International funds contribute around 100 million DKK.
